No offense and discrimination to any country and individual here. Today, I just came across a sad article on how a deranged individual and mother who is once barred from the firing range could be allowed into that very range have a gun, shot her son point blank into the head and finally turning it onto herself! Investigations revealed that she is mentally ill and barred from the firing range for an unsuccessful suicide attempt which her ex-husband was involved. From her suicide notes and audio recordings, it was believed that she is convinced that she is the anti Christ. It is really a sad episode indeed and out of this I am really wondering if this incident and similar ones could have been avoided and prevented in the first place. Prevented if the country or state would not be conflicting with its' human rights innuendos and conflicts. I mean, why should mentally ill and individuals have the freedom to be allowed on the streets? Why should religious extremist groups be allowed to exist and conduct gatherings? Why should these groups teaching be allowed without close scrutiny and supervisions? Why couldn't the authorities exercise their authority fully to curb questionable individuals and/or groups from threatening the well being of the public and country? Do these people still deserve the privileges of human rights? Well, IMHO, I tend to disagree and that they should never even have the right to exist especially when they are bringing harm, devastation and catastrophe to all around. What's your take here? Anything further to add to enhance the authorities to effectively stem out these questionable characters and groups? I agree that the story you referenced is a very sad one but the U.S. was founded on freedoms that we hold dear. Where do you draw the line with the mentally ill? There are laws on the books that allow someone who is a danger to him/herself and/or others to be held for observation and treatment for a period of time but we can't read someone's mind so, as with this case, we can't know who exactly is too sick to be walking around free. You can't lock someone away forever and you can't force them to take their medication either. As far as religious extremist groups go, I'm pretty certain they are under close scrutiny...it's just not obvious. It's not possible in a country based on religious freedom to supervise any religious group, regardless of whether we agree with their teachings or not. Those who openly threaten this nation are breaking the law as far as I know and are dealt with. I also have a question as to how you would define which individual groups are considered "questionable". My youngest daughter used to have a very unique look...part punk and part skater girl...so she could have been considered "questionable" with her multi-colored hair and her tendency to wear black...yet she was a good student and always has been a good girl. I would never support a government that was allowed to pull her off the street and subject her to questioning based on nothing more than her looks or that of her friends as well. A free society cannot do that, even in order to protect itself.

Human Rights are for every human person - no matter if you're an extremist or if you're something else. However, everybody has human rights and anybody who bars someone from having his own rights is separated from the society - that's why we have convicts in prisons and mentally unstable people in hospitals. It is also our responsibility to report such people to the proper authorities so that we can preserve the majority's human rights :) Thanks for the response on my discussion!

I do agree that this incident could have been avoided and prevented had the people in the mental institution been stringent with their observance. The authorities over the religious sects acted fully in stamping out the wrongful and bad teachings. Freedom is for those who are rightful and deserving. It is not for everyone, especially the conscious criminals, terrorists, religious extremists and those who knows what they are doing is harmful, wrong and bad. For the sub conscious like the mentally ill, derange, post trauma depressed, post war traumas and the mentally uncontrollable individuals - authorities should step in not only to provide a facility for them but to thoroughly follow up and look into their well being. They should not be allowed without supervision and certainly left alone on their own.
