How can we make our own mayonaise because I think the price is getting higher and the jar is getting smaller. Just what is in it that makes them jack up the prices. Is anyone making their own?

I love Hellmann's mayo. It is my favorite and I won't buy anything else. Last I priced it it was $3.99 for a jar! The only time I use it in abundance is when making summer salads. This is when I really feel the pinch in the purse. Never have I made mayo at home. Not certain I would try it. Too afraid of food poisoning.

It would be safe up to a week at least....and I can make a fresh batch each week. I am not afraid to make it, it is very easy to do. I think 3.99 is very high, but we could see it going higher...who knows. Appreciate the response.

To make your own mayonnaise you need oil and egg yolks, some lemon juice or vinegar and paprika For one jar you need about 3 cup of light olive oil (less strongly flavored than standard olive oil) or other good-quality oil, or canola oil 3 egg eggs 3 tbl spoons of lemon juice, or vinegar A pinch of salt (and pepper, if desired)and or paprika for some tang Separate the eggs whites from the yolks; Reserve the whites for other recipes. For each cup of mayonnaise, add between 1 and 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice or vinegar, depending upon your tastes. Combine the egg yolk and lemon or vinegar bowl, whisking to mix. Pour mix into a blender. Put the blender on LOW speed. Slowly start to add the olive or veggie oil to the egg and lemon mixture. If the Mayo seems too thick for your taste you can add 1teaspoon of water at a time until thinned to your satisfaction. Add the salt and pepper to your taste about 1 tspn salt and half tspn pepper is usually good. Hope this helps

I am not sure what is in it that would be expensive. I read the ingredients once and it really seemed like it would be pretty easy.

It really is easy to make. It is another way we can choose to save money and it only takes minutes to make. It is better than paying 3.99 a jar. I think that is too high. Appreciate the response.

Not sure what they put in it. We don't use that much of it so it is not that bad to buy for us. My husband uses mayo and my son and I like miracle whip and even that we don't use that often. Some of the things it may not be what they put in the things that jacks the price up it could also be shipping, gasoline.......a lot of things can factor into the price of things I would think. :)

If they are going to continue raising prices, then I am going to make it. I am making many changes to save and this will be another one. It is also good because you know what is in it, and it is all natural.

Appreciate this link and will check it out. I think it can keep up to a week, maybe, so it may be well worthwhile to make a batch up each week. Appreciate the response.
