Neighbours was really good recently. Then they spoilt it when 'Sass' came along.

I'm in the UK and have really been enjoying the recent storyline of Zeke being lost, presumed dead after the rafting accident. The acting by his family and friends has been amazing and spot on, and the secrets that are coming out, and hints that he might not be dead after all are intriguing. I also loved the singing at his memorial - haven't Caitlin Stacy and Kim Valentine both got the most lovely voices?
Right, so just as I'm thinking 'yeh, this is a really good programme, the writers have got it just right.. they introduce Sass, Donna's mum. Why did they need to do that? We already have Paul and Sam as the characters we can hate. And there's really too much going on for us to need another evil character right now. The timing's just not right.
Apart from this, the woman is like a cartoon character. She's Jessica Rabbit with her blatent over-sexuality. She can't act, and she's like nobody you'd ever meet in real-life. Plus she's so obviously not what she's claiming to be, a young child could spot that. Yet Paul, Ringo and the rest of the (male) Ramsey Street population are all fooled. How stupid are they?
Alongside the intelligent, subtle and beautiful scenes of the Zeke storyline, why do the writers feel the need to insult our intelligence by introducing this 2-D harlot with no apparent feelings or soul??? My view of the writers have now changed. In fact how can the same writers be responsible for both stories? Maybe one set of writers left suddenly and they weren't able to hire any others at such short notice, so they got the 16 year-old tea-boy to write the scenes for a bit. I can think of no other feasible explanation!
I've had my rant now, so I feel a little bit better.
Fellow Neighbours fans, how do you feel about these two contrasting storylines?
Oh, and ***No spoilers please!!!!***

I agree. Sass is an entirely unbelievable character, and we've already got baddies. What they have done in the past, which has really annoyed me as well, is introduce horrible characters who have miraculously morphed into okay characters. I think you are right, they probably have had a turnover of writers recently.

Thanks for your post, and glad you agree! Yes, I'm thinking that this is what I think of her now, but maybe I'll be won over once I've got used to her, and when she sees the error of her ways and has turned into a lovable character, lol!
You're right, this happens a lot. Although with Miranda's sister (can't remember her name..) that was just plain confusing as she started off evil, then was friends with Toady so you thought she was ok, then did something else bad, then did something good in aid of the family, snogged Miranda's husband a few times, became sympathetic, lied about lots of things, became ill, then good? ..evil? ..and then went mad. It was something like that anyway.
I spose lots of the characters we know and love now started off bad.

I wish you hadn't mentioned Miranda's sister, now I can't remember her name. I'll be awake all night trying to remember!
