Do you put plant flowers or plants you receive outside after a few days?

My son gave me a beautiful tulip plant Easter Sunday and they started opening up on Monday. I've had them on my kitchen table all week and since the weather has been so nice and supposedly going to stay that way I just planted them outside under my living room window. Another woman in my building and I have planted flowers there before and it seems their in a good spot and usually grow pretty well.
What do you do with flowers or plants people give you? Do you live in an area where they would grow outside or not?

I live in Central Fl and almost anything will grow here. I would plant it outside since I live in a tiny apt. When I moved here about a year ago there were no plants around the apt building, just weeds and a poison hedge with poison oak in it.
I pulled everything out and now I have planted hibiscus, roses, bleeding heart vines, jasmine, honey suckle, geranium, various small trees and all kinds of small flowering plants.
On the side yard I have a large vegetable garden which I share with the neighbors. The place looks great now. We have the nicest looking bldg. in the complex now!
Good luck with your plants!
