I'm so worried about my Fluffy right now  email this discussion to a friend?

Fluffy is my beautiful long haired gray tabby mix kitty that I've had for about 6 years now...since she was a newborn. A few weeks ago she started this really strange behavior. She would walk all over the house meowing her little heart out (and I have to admit that her meow when she's like that is a bit nerve racking because of the high pitch). But she was eating and drinking and being her usual royal kitty self. I attributed her behavior to my three unspayed female cats that were in heat. She did the same thing last year until their heats were over and then she stopped. But this time she didn't stop. And about five days ago she decided to hide under my bed up inside the king sized headboard. Considering that my room is long and narrow and there's no way to get to the sides of the bed because it takes up one whole end of the bedroom, it wasn't a simple task to get underneath and get her out. I think she came out a few times during the night to go use the litter box, but I'm not positive since the fan I have running at night is not the quietest thing in the world and drowns out other noises quite effectively. Anyway, last night I finally managed to get over on one side of the bed, hang upside down practically with the flashlight in hand and finally saw Fluffy laying in the far corner under my side of the bed. She looked awful....not much life in her eyes at all. So my poor hubby, at 11:00 at night, had to go in and just about dismantle the whole bed (it's a king size Select Comfort bed with dual sided air chambers..very complicated to deal with) to get to Fluffy to pull her out. I mean, he had to shove the top mattress which is a solid piece with the air chambers inside over against the window as best he could and practically fold it in half. THEN he had to take the support mattress under my side of the bed completely apart. He managed to get Fluffy out and into my arms, and then I got the heck out of there because he was a bit on the grumpy side because of it all (took him about 30 minutes to get it all put back to rights). Fluffy is a mess. She's severely dehydrated, to the point that when I pull up the scruff of her neck it just stays there and doesn't smooth back down like it's supposed to. We've been fighting fleas again this year and I swear they were all on her. I probably did a no no considering the shape she's in, but I took the Frontline spray and coated her pretty good with it. I couldn't just leave her with all those critters on her. She was bad enough that the flea dirt was pretty much cemented onto her skin. Her breath has never been good since she's lost a few teeth, but now it's absolutely horrendous. She's so listless right now and it shows in her eyes. She can barely stand up now too. She walked around a bit last night, but she's gotten even weaker today. At one point she went totally limp in my arms as I was brushing the flea dirt out of her fur as much as I could, and I thought she had died right then. Along with all of that her body temperature seems to be a lot colder than it should be. She's just not doing good at all. She goes into the vet in about an hour and fifteen minutes, and I'm trying to be optimistic that he can do something for her, but then at the same time I'm gearing up for the worst because I honestly think that she's going to end up being put to sleep. And that thought is just breaking my heart right now. She's my beautiful baby and I can't imagine not having her around. And this is happening on top of my having to have three newborn kittens put to sleep last week because their mama just isn't the mama type and had no milk come in. And even though I tried to feed them, they just didn't respond. So this is all just killing me inside right now.

Please pray for my lovely girl that she either makes it through all of this, either in our world or over the Rainbow Bridge....where either way she is not in pain and at peace. I'm sorry this was so long winded. Much love and hugs to all.......Carryl

Carryl, get that cat to the vet this instant! This is an emergency case and they will see that once you walk in the door! Veterinarians take emergency cases FIRST and FOREMOST so get her there NOW!! They might be able to save her if she is taken in now and not wait another minute!! I'm serious sweetie! Now GO!! Don't answer back, just GO!

Is it a one doctor vet office? They don't have someone there at all times? I mean, if there's more than one vet then they have someone there at all times in case of an emergency. When did they say they'd be back? Wait, that just doesn't make any sense at all.... someone has to be there.

It's a one doctor office. I don't live in the biggest town in the world. And the bigger vet practice is over 30 minutes away from my home. But I'm getting ready to head back up there now, so hopefully Fluffy will get some help.

I think your Fluffy was sacred of the unsprayed female cats. From what I know about cats, any other cat of the same gender is considered a rival and if Fluffy was fixed, they might really hate her. I am afraid that if she cannot be cured, she might have to be put to sleep. And you could have given those three newborn kittens away, give them to the vet who has formulas for newborn pets. I know when we had our puppy whose mother rejected her, the vet gave us a formula, but she was a puppy.
I hope your Fluffy gets better.

The kittens were not in good shape from the very start hon. I gave them formula, and did regular feedings, but they didn't respond. The vet also seemed to think that whatever Kitkat had been sick with passed onto the babies. Please don't think I didn't try my hardest. The vet was even looking to see if they had a surrogate mom to give them to. But they were too far gone. We tried, we really did. As for Fluffy, the other cats except for Kitkat were outside, and last year it was the outside cats that were in heat as well. Thank you for the support hon. I really appreciate it.

I am praying for your little girl. I had something like that happen to my KoKo many years ago. I sprayed her for fleas and she got so sick I thought she was going to die, it turned out that she was allergic to the poison in the spray. I quit using any chemical spray on any of my animals and went natural with brewers yeast and garlic.

Part of the problem too could be the massive amount of fleas she had on her body, they feed on her blood and according to the animal planet animal cop shows, fleas can kill a kitten or cat by the amount of blood they suck from the cat.

I am seriously praying for your cat. They get so sick so fast that it's incredible. I had to take Murphy in on an emergency basis as she had a urinary track infection...as the vet said the UTI's can kill a cat in a matter of a couple of days. I know what you're going through and my prayers and thoughts are with you and your sweet baby.

Thank you so much hon. I've been trying to use just the yeast for my cats and it's been doing the trick. But this was desperation time I guess so I grabbed the Frontline. I've used it on all my cats before and it's the ONLY spray that they aren't allergic to besides a few of the organic ones. I had a cat that had the Feline Urinary Syndrome, and even after the vet worked on him he never came out of the anesthesia. It was so heart breaking. I just wish I could have gotten to Fluffy before now. But that's a moot point to ponder I guess. Thanks again hon. HUGS!

Carryl, I'm so sorry! My first thought besides the vet is to get some Pedialyte in her to build up her fluids. I would take her to the vet now regardless of the appointment time. She seems to need immediate care. I have prayed and I'm expecting God to give you a miracle so expect one.

Thank you so much hon. I've been praying too. I went up there but they were closed for lunch. Go figure! But I'm leaving here in a few minutes to go back up there. Thank God they are not very far away.

I just read this and I am hoping that there was something that the vet could do? Could you please offer an update if you are up to it?

oh!!!!!i just hope that fluffy makes it...some cats are like that..i mean..acting strange...my marmalade tabby cat..neutered..has been making cat calls too..the past days but he eats a lot...but now he has toned down..and is back to his normal self....but it's good that you have brought fluffy to the vet..that is the best that you can do for her...i pray that she gets well soon...but dehydration in cats is really a big ordeal to hurdle..please just stand by her and..how we wish that things will be fine with fluffy!
