Can you suggest a more odor absorbant cat litter?

I have one cat, which is male. We have used Tidy Cat scoopable cat litter for as long as I can remember. Recently it the odor form the litter box is extremely strong. Even after I clean the litter box the odor still lingers in the air. Within a few hours after cleaning the litter box the odor goes away. I don’t believe anything is wrong with him that his urine would have a stronger odor then before. Can anyone suggest a scoopable cat litter that absorbs the urine odor and eliminates the odor from lingering in the air?

We use Arm @ hammer cat litter with baking soda in it. Some times we even sprinkle on some extra just to be sure it keeps the oder down. Arm @ Hammer works well for us. We get the Super scooping. Baking soda is great for keeping odors down.

Have you changed your cat's food? Sometimes changing to a different food can unbalance your cat's system and change its urinary pH. Just an idea. I'm in the process of trying different cat litters because the clay clumping litters just aren't satisfactory anymore. They're dusty, full of artificial fragrances that make me sneeze, they track all over the place, and they just don't take care of odors very well. So far we've tried Feline Pine, Swheat Scoop, and a corn-based cat litter. Feline Pine came in pellets that my cat didn't care for and it didn't clump well, but it did work ok for odor. Swheat Scoop was pretty much a failure. My cats liked it just fine, but its odor-absorbing capabilities zero, and it stuck to the sides of the litter box making it really hard to clean. The corn cat litter seems to be working ok, but I haven't been using it long enough to tell. But it doesn't seem to stick to the litter box, at least. One brand of corn litter, "World's Best," has really, really good reviews online so we'll probably try that next. The only things so far that definitively reduce litter box odor for us are cleaning it every single day and adding baking soda.

Actually within the lst 4 months we have changed my cats food. So that may be part of it. I think I'm going to try Arm & Hammer next. Till then I'll be adding some baking soda to my cat's litter as suggested.
