Do you make silly mistakes with your grammar?  

I tend to do a lot of those typos when I am in a hurry and sometimes my thoughts which come faster than anything add to my fat fingers and make things worse.

Same here. I never read through the draft and publish directly. That makes me vulnerable to typos and mistakes. I am guilty and am trying to make it up.

lay,laid --the best explanation is is Wren And Martin --I swear by this.
Then there is the standard confusion between'raise and rise','diary and dairy'.
And of course we have umpteen misconceptions in the use of articles because people tend to go by the spelling and not the phonetic sound.And here also there seems to be a lot of confusion.

Coming to the mistakes I make, nowadays I tend to skip certain words while typing because my thoughts are faster than my typing or writing.Is age catching up with me?I would not allow it.

I know what you mean. I seldom make mistakes like this except for the times when I get increasingly fatter fingers. And sometimes, my thoughts flies and my finger (I type with the middle right finger only!)struggles - so yet another typo. I am also guilty of not revising my text - that is another matter to be cared for.

I feel, we tend to do a lot of mistakes with the homonyms. And 'affect' and 'effect' are certainly not the same.

True mimpi, the teachers in our schools and colleges definitely taught us this and recently I was surprised to see a list of words where this'effect' was said to be American'affect'.I saw a big list of words,'Standard English and'American ' English and this was among the list;I was surprised.
Similarly the use of'c' was also mentioned.
One thing that I have realised is that apart from misconceptions, people nowadays tend to repeat wrong usages so much that they make it a common thing and passit on so much thta wrong usages become the 'generally heard'.eg This is how they use the words'continue' and'confirm' in our regional language [Surprisingly I have seen it on T.V. too]--anyhow, as our pm said once ,we Indians would tend to drop an article here and add one there at will.

How strange it can get Kala! Even I have been noticing the metamorphoses of various regional languages as in Media and also not to forget the language of English. Dictionary, itself has evolved so much with the inclusion of newer 'hinglish' (I hate this word!) words. And just as you I am perplexed as to the future of the language. The children today are upto all wrong spellings and interpretations. They are a confused lot today with a jammed English from UK and US.

And sadly so!

We also have 'Tanglish'[Tamil+English] words and God help our future generations--only recently I was discussing about this at home.And I cannot understand why they should not use the pure colloquial form of Tamil in these channels[no one is asking for the absolutely pure as was seen in ancient movies]the colloquial informal form is how we talk -
It is disgustingly affected on T.V. at times.

Same here. The horrible metamorphosis of my regional language makes me frowm at times. The media reaches out to mass with little wisdom and care. The kids are imitating the, Don't they have a role to play?

That means, we should be more careful about the homonyms for it can really change the meaning altogether. Coming to the apostrophe, I kind of find myself there many times, especially when I am in a hurry.

And let's go back to Grammar School, I will love it!

Yes we need to be more careful. Like i know what i want to put across or communicate,but the mind is going much faster when compared to our fingers. And one click of the button and then i'm scratching my head as to why i did not check it.

It's the medium of the internet and our wanting to do things quickly i think.

And Grammar school, it would be fun.., just don't put me along with 8 year olds. i'd be too embarrased.

I wonder who amongst the two of us will be more difficult to teach and boss over ?

I think, extensive texting and chatting have affected or literature as well. But the fact that you are aware of it is a first and foremost step to improvement. And tutul, you are fine with this response, I really appreciate.

I have always found you great with your English. So no issues. I have fat fingers and as you have said, when in a hurry, I tend to do a lot of typos.
Conscience for conscious, is common error aswell and most make spelling mistakes while writing both.

I am glad that you are conscious about your writing. Even though, I make a lot of typos and other errors, I make sure to write good and write proper. Once you have clicked the submit button, you have had it! And there are people who go through the interactive sessions and I make sure make myself understandable all the time. I feels awful when you read through your own post and find that it is not making enough sense or it has errors in it!

Incidentally,this is not a 'coming back again';it was written along with the first posts.Only thing is instead of adding the comment I had written it as a response.
Anyhow, you have got my point exactly ;we feel bad with so many typos, though nowadays I bother less [after that friend -the one who spoke to me yesterday had mentioned long back'what is a typo or two between friends'?.BTW,what happened?Did you make an inspired guess/Or should I tell you?
