Bad English by English tutors? |
| |
| Today along with my newspaper I recieved a flier from a company that had classes to help you improve your English. As I read through their ad, I was shocked.Let me explain why. This is EXACTLY what was printed on the ad,"Two month is enough to make u an Englih Expert". Alright they messed up the two monthS ARE part, and they spelt you as u.But promising to improve your English when they didn't even spell English right? How bad can that be? Have you ever seen such contradictory ads before? Please share your experience if you have.:D Also feel free to comment on this. | | | | | |

| | I'd bet that ad hasn't received any response. It is really an insult to real English teachers who take their jobs seriously. Such kind of teachers would ruin the reputation of all the other teachers. It's like putting a rotten tomato in a basket of fresh ones. | | | | | | |

| | You are absolutely right. Not only have they ruined the reputation of English teachers but also other Institutions which teach English.Any person who is say, mediocre in English and has seen this ad will have a feeling that going to such institutions will not help and that its nearly impossible to improve English from such places. | | | |

| | Although I'm certainly not perfect when it comes to grammar, I can't stand to see such mistakes. Especially ones as egregarious as that. I don't mind seeing errors in letters, or other personal communications, or a forum such as this. This is just regular people talking, and much like speech, we are bound to make errors all the time. When the item of interest is presented by someone portending to be a professional, especially a professional in writing or English, such errors are simply inexcusable. | | | | | | |

| | I like reading such ads and notices very much. Because i dont know why, whether intentionally or not, 99% of such ads and notices have mistakes in the spelling. I used to go to a computer institute and there was also the same problem of spelling mistake in the notice. It sometimes make me feel irritating that inspite of knwoing that they are teaching, how do they commit such mistakes, which should not be committed by them. Such mistakes put a large impact on the mind of a reader if the reader is careful enough. Have a good day...keep smiling.. | | | | | | |

| | I don't think it is intentional as I dont see how the company/institution's reputation increases when they make mistakes in the very subject that they are supposed to teach. Also these mistakes are seen by a large number of people. Good day to you too.:D | | | |

| | Maybe there was a problem with the advertising company that printed it. I mean their machines or whatever they use. Because I am surprise myself. Have you ask your self this question, like I did? "Are these people people idiot? They are English tutorial company and yet they have that kind of advertisement?" How can they get students if they have that kind of advertisement? If they happen to see their own ad like that I bet they'll recall those fliers and news paper ads. It's a disgrace to their company. How will they be able to get clients? | | | | | | |

| | If it is the advertising company's mistake then that means that the original company is not responisble enough.Shouldn't they check their own ads for a final correction/suggestions before sending it in for printing,distribution..etc? | | | |

| | Well, i think the ad. may have been checked out before the advertising company printed it. You know, even the Wanted Ads in the paper will be examined by original companies. Anyway, it is somewhat unbelievable to know this. | | | |

| | Hi,Runescapeguy I have seen this kind of ads before, and recieve ads about learning foreign languages everyday.I usually take that as a joke as I never believe that one can master a foreign language in just a month or so.What you said is right, since they can not spell English correctly, then how about their students?Absolutely they can not improve anyone's English. They are just lying!I really hate these kinds of ads as they not only waste people's money and also their time to read the ad. Have a nice day! | | | | | | |

| | Hey.:D Yes,the idea that it is possible to learn a language in a couple of months is absurd.I believe that you can never really learn a language by attending classes but only by talking, reading, listening and interacting with others who use that language.:D Good day to you too. | | | |

| | Nothing to be shocked really. This is bound to happen in all those areas where English is not a mother-tongue but the craze to learn English is definitely among the citizens because of the international importance of this language. I have seen such ads here in India too as everybody from the largest megalopolis to the tiniest village wants to learn English and improve job prospects but there are just not enough schools to impart English education | | | | | | |

| | Funnily enough,I live in India too...and of course this is an Indian ad.I have seen spelling mistakes in ads by other companies but never by a institution teaching English. But you are right everyone does want to learn English and they may still go the very institutions which aren't fluent in English. | | | |

| | Oops, my mistake, I did not chk your profile. Anyway, this way I am meeting another fellow Indian here. So you too see such ads and get pissed off by them? And the saddest part is that so many such institutions are fooling the naïve this way and earning tons of money yet there is no quality-control check by the Govt. | | | |

| | Yes.I do get pissed off by such ads.And the problem is that the peopple who go to these institutions don't have anyone to approach or are afraid to approach someone and to ask their opinion or help. | | | |

| | true they have misspelled words but in some cases they do it to attract customers it may not necessarily be the brightest way but hey it did get your attention and they could have been mimicking people who couldn't speak English properly. nevertheless I'm sure they did it just for illustration purposes. in my opinion you cant criticism it that much until you go to the center yourself cause you do not know for whatever reasons did they print it out. it maybe an outrage to you but think about the customers that might think that it was a clever way to get you to read their add. cheers mate | | | | | | |

| | What you say could be true. But an evidence of sarcasm may have helped them better. But is catching your attention through a negative light better than catching it through a positive way. | | | |

| | Maybe the words 'negative' and 'positive' aren't the words that actually describe the situation. | | | |

| | Perhaps they did "get my attention", but I would not send any business their way! I think they are simply advertising a crash course in (very rough) English. Surely their intent it to teach enough for one to get by, but not attain mastery status! | | | |
