Separating bedrooms from their parents...is it good or bad???...  email this discussion to a friend?

Theirs no doubt that here in the United States they separate the children's bedroom from their parents the day after they born. What do you think, guys? You think it's good or bad?

In my opinion, I don't think it's good especially the newly born baby, but some say why not? I was born in the Philippines, so when I arrived here in the States I was quite shock knowing that the children here have separate bedrooms, while in the Philippines we all sleep in the same bedroom. How about you, guys? In your country, did you, or did you not separate your children bedrooms from your parents bedroom? Feel free your opinion. Thanx!

When my children were first born I kept them in my room in a bassinet. It was easier for those middle of the night feedings. But when they were about a month old they started sleeping in the nursery. Since we would be going to bed at a later time and my husband getting up early to go to work, it seemed better for them to be in a different rooms so we would not disturb their sleep. In our case the bedroom is not large and there really isn't room in our bed for the kids also.

Most people I know keep a newborn in the bedroom with them for the first couple months. It is as the baby is learning to sleep through the night that they are placed in a room of their own. I think this practice became normal so that the parents felt they had more freedom moving around the bedroom. Not having to worry about noises they may make and waking the baby. Others feel more comfortable moving the baby into another room because the idea of being intimate with the baby in the same room is unsettling.

Both my kids were kept in the bedroom with me. My son got a room of his own around 3 months. My daughter was a little older (about 6 months) because she was born premature and had some health issues that scared me to have her in another room at night.
