Where do you go for your news? email this discussion to a friend?

So I'm doing a project for my media writing class and its all about where people go for their news and how therefore we need to change the way we do things as journalist in order to get all the audience that we can.

So to get some ideas I'm asking the mylotters here where do you go for your news and why.

Do you ever read a print newspaper? Or is network news still a big thing? Is it all online? Do you have certain blogs that you go to for certain topics?

And how often do you actually search for news - and is it because you want to or is it because you heard something so therefore you are going for more information.

Thanks!

most of the time i watch tv for the news. world news to be more specific. im usually not too interested about local news, but i do try and stay informed.

sometimes i go on cnn.com to read on the headlines. but i also learn a lot from a friend who reads online newspaper sites daily

myLot reputation of 90/100. anotherxidentity (804)   ranked 409 out of 18,670 in questions & answers  7 months ago

Thanks for much for the response!

Quick question though! Is there a certain channel you choose on the TV and is there a reason behind it? I know some people choose their channel due to political affiliation but I was just wondering since a lot of times world news tends to be a lot more political than local news.

usually ABC news or NBC. i watch world news with Gibson and 60minutes. these two are very informative and intresting. i also watch the local news sponsored by these stations

i tend to stay away from FOX news mainly because they always seem unprofessional and goofy all the time

I tend to use the internet as my biggest news source. I check cnn.com, wsj.com, msnbc.com and local newspaper sites to get my fill each day. I don't have a print newspaper delivered to my house because I don't usually live in one place too long. I would like to be able to get a physical paper each day though, it's just more convenient to read stories online at work.

Is there a certain physical paper you would actually want though? Like would it be more the local paper or would you rather have a more national newspaper like the New York Times etc. to read.

Thanks!

I get most of my news online. In the mornings, I listen to Fox or CNN on cable to catch up on a few of the most current events.Other than that I read the headlines as I check my email. If there is something I want to find out about I go to google.com and click on news then puruse through and read only what catches my attention.

If I am looking for something in paricular I google it. During the fires in Oklahoma last month, I went online to thier local news channels. I actually saw my sister interviewed as her neighborhood was hit hard.

About the only paper I read is the local ones for small town news!

I will usually go online and read my local newspaper but there are a lot of times when it doesn't have as much of the local news as i would like so there are times when I will just go onto my local news channel to catch the rest of the news.

If I wanting more of world news I will go onto MSN or some place like that and then for celebrity news I like to go onto TMZ.com or perezhilton.com...they always seem to have the most up to date news.

For you - what are you primarily interested in? Is it more of the celebrity news or it is mostly world news?

I know one of the things we were learning in class is about how fascinated people are with the lives of other people which is young the newer generations sometimes can't tell you anything about what is going on in the world, but can tell you a ton about what is going on with certain celebrities.

Also - with perez hilton - do you see him as a legitimate source, or do you try to check other places to see if what he is saying is completely true?

I rely on three main sources for my daily news. The first is the print media. I subscribe to two newspaper publications and will read these first thing in the morning at breakfast. That gives me a good summary of what has happened locally, regionally and in the world the past 24 hours. In the evenings, I will hear the news on television on what has happened during the day. In between, if I am interested in updates, breaking news or the latest happenings, I will normally browse the internet to sites that dish out news reports like CNN, CNBC, BBC, Channel News Asia and AsiaOne. Using all these three sources in tandem give me a very good up-to-date grasp of the major news events happening around me locally and elsewhere.

Thanks for voting me. I really appreciate that.

Incidentally, when Michael Jackson died late last week, I did not first read it in the local morning newspapers. I overheard someone passing that news around and checked for it in the internet new channels (CNN, Yahoo News, etc) and caught up with the updates there, before seeing it in print the next day.

I usually watch TV.Beacuse I think News on TV has been strictly elected,I can have a brief idea about what happens today.I sometimes read print newspaper.I don't like news on the internet.Sometimes inorder to attract viewers, they just put some gossip news in front.
I seldom search for news.I'll do it if I really want a compelet understand.

I used to watch tv news when there is something controversial going on. But these days i get my news from yahoo, whenever I sign out from my mail they open this page where there are news excerpts posted, if i find them interesting i click on them. Otherwise i read others newspapers while riding the jeep od listen to my neighbor's radio blasting news.

I actually enjoy watching the local news, and CNN sometimes.

I do not read the newspaper often, nor do I favor any blogs, etc...

I search for news only if something interests me and I am in search of more info on it...

Good luck with your project!

I usually go online for news. Sometimes I also watch TV and listen to the radio... but I only do the latter when my parents are doing that too. Haha! I don't usually search for news. My parents are the ones updating me with the social happenings here then I search for them in the internet.

Most of the time I watch the 6pm news. Sometimes I read bits through msn or I go to the specific website if I want to read/know more about the story I saw on tv
