who knows any cure for migraines? |
|
I have been suffering with headaches for as long as i can remember.Very intense, sometimes i cry.I went to the doctor and he said it was migraines but there is no cure, yet he did not give any medicine to take for it.I usually drink painkillers such as tylenol, advil and panadol but they didnt work so now i only take advil.I take four at a time although i know its not good thats what helps me from going insane with the pain. Are there any of my fellow mylotters who suffer with it?Can you tell me what you take for it?Was it prescribed to you?

2. spalladino (9043) | 8 months ago | You need to see another doctor. There are medications that will not only lessen the number of migraines that you have but there are also medications that you can take once a migraine starts to stop it. I don't know the names...my best friend gets them and she's been helped by medication for a long time.

4. RedDiary (140) | 8 months ago | better have a check up. coz even if you will take a medicine for migraine, you dont know if that is compatible with the one that you have right now. Have a doctor check you up so that you will know the medicine that will work for you.
i will tell you something, my highschool classmates' Mom died because of tumor. She tought that it is just migraine and tried to handle it drinking pain relievers. after a week she fainted and she was brought to the hospital. Later in the afternoon same day, she said that she is okay and insisted to go home. next day, she fainted again, and same thing happened yesterday she went home. her migraine shows but she does not mind it at all, taking only the over-the-counter medicines to relieve pain. The third day, while she was sleeping, she was snoring, and then she did not wake up.. and later on the afternoon that day, she died.
so with that, we better take care of ourselves, drink vitamins, have check up at least once a month or 3 months.
hope you will go to your doctor.

I find your dr to be very insensitive, he could have at least ordered you Imitrex or Relpax to see if they help you. I would suggest you keep a journal of when you get them, how long they last, whether they are in the same spot of your head, what precipitates them, and what if anything will help them go away or at least be alleviated. Then you will have info to arm yourself with. Also do you have any neurological symptoms that accompany the migraine, such as dizziness, blurred vision, light sensitivity, etc. You can try Excedrin Migraine it does work well. Because it can be caused by any number of things, finding the cause would be your best bet to finding what will work. I think Relpax works wonderful, it is kind of expensive though.

Reesers (966) | 8 months ago | That is exactly what I was going to say. I know what triggers my migraines and usually can prevent them in time. I don't have a prescription but I do use Excedrin Migraine. I absolutely love it. And you're right, it works really well.
I know Advil has something as well but I've never tried it. The only reason is that they look like they're on the bigger side, like those huge round tablets or gelcaps. I have a hard time with things like that. Excedrin goes down easily so I've stuck with that.

7. visitorinvasion (3604) | 8 months ago | I'm a firm believer in the "sugar-caffiene overload" cure. I learned this cure in 3rd grade from my teacher who suffered migraines badly. She'd get a coke and a snickers and practically inhale them. I found out a couple years ago that it actually works. Prior to actually trying it, I used Excedrin Migraine. The pop & candy bar work faster. Good luck. I hope you feel better soon. --Shannon

rebelmel (634) | 8 months ago | I will have to try that sometime. This makes me a bit nervous though, because when I get migranes, just the THOUGHT of sugar makes me throw up.

| 8. Brandiewynne (49) | 8 months ago | Definelty see another dr!!! people are dr. shopping these days so the doctors are less quick to prescribe things. Maxalt worked great for me. Excedrin worked well but I was eating to many of them and gave myself an ulcer so be careful with those.
Caffine works for me but my freind says it makes hers worse. Everyone is different with that. Try laying in a dark, quiet room with a cold pack on your neck when you feel the migraine coming on. The sooner that you can "catch it" the better.
Good luck to you

9. feathers26 (866) | 8 months ago | You may see an opthalmologist, don't skip meal, don't get very exhausted. Don't eat chocolates and cheese, Don't look at the bright lights. Look at the green grasses outside, take a deep breath. I have found a new food supplement to alleviate it. and it works.

| 10. moretechgadgets (25) | 8 months ago | If all else fails why don't you shop for a good acupuncturist. My friend had constant headaches and after a few sessions, her headaches did not go away completely but it became less frequent. I'm not sure if insurance pays for it, you should check anyway, but I don't think it's too expensive to do this on your own either.

rebelmel (634) | 8 months ago | That is a really good idea! I have always wanted to go to an acupuncturist, just as a goal in life, but I never really thought about it as a medicine for migranes. I want to try meditation to see if that helps, as well as see a chiropractor. An acupuncturist might do the trick!
