Why! | | Why do you work where you work, do what you do? What drives you to succeed? What inspires you to set goals at home? What is your driving factor to get ahead in life? A lot of whys there I guess, but I was really curious, why do we do what we do?

| | | | | | | | 1. goldeneagle (3630) | 8 months ago | I work for a company called ZAXBY'S (www.zaxbys.com). I started working there several years ago because I needed a job and they were one of the first ones to call me back when I was looking for work. At first, it was just a job, and I didn't plan on staying there long. I ended up staying there for almost four years, and during that time, I went back to school and earned an associate's degree. I tried a couple of other jobs, but ended up back at Zaxby's again. I have decided to stay there now and work my way up through the ranks to management. I have been back there for almost a year now, and I am doing well there. I don't know how long it will be before I become a manager, but I am being considered for a team-leader position. I know the job, and I do most of the things involved in it anyway, so it really wouldn't be a big change for me. It would just mean a little more money and a little bit of authority to handle problems when I needed to.
I have a few things that I want to accomplish in life. I want to pay off my house, and there is a truck that I want. I want a Ford F-250 crew cab. I also want to get my own business going so that I don't have to fully rely on someone else for my income. As long as you can manage the risks, there is a lot more money in working for yourself. I want to get into the real estate market, not as an agent, but as a property owner/developer. I want to own rental properties and flip houses. I also want to help other people do the same thing. Part of my company would be dedicated to providing hauling and construction services for other people wanting to do real estate, and to helping them achieve their goals while I achieve mine. I already do odd jobs on the side, such as lawn care, window cleaning, and hauling, so I guess I am sort-of on my way...
I guess the thing that is driving me to achieve the things I want is that I know what it is like to be broke. I filed bankruptcy shortly after I started working at Zaxby's the first time. I was at the bottom of the barrel for sure, and I don't want to end up there again. I have worked my way up again, and managed to buy a small house that I really like a few years ago. Unfortunately, a few bad decisions set me back, and I have to start off near the bottom again, but I should be able to work my way back out to a little better situation within the next year if all goes well. I guess it will all work out one way or the other.

CJscott (1032) | 8 months ago | Whoa, Why you do it, and what happened when you didn't. Great reply friend, I know it will all work out for you. I hope to start a business of my own as well, nothing as high tech as you, I am testing my feet in network marketing as a tester because it was not that expensive to get involved. I am greatly hoping it all works out, for both you and me. Cheers.

goldeneagle (3630) | 8 months ago | Hey man be careful with that network marketing crap. I have tried several of those so-called "opportunities" are nothing more than scams designed to get your money. They promise to "train" you, then once they get your money, they move on to the next sucker and leave you sitting there holding the bill...Which company do you market for?

zigzagbuddha (1833) | 8 months ago | Hahahaha... well, short? Hmmm. I guess that would depend on one's intentions in a given life. Sweet is good... one of my personal favorites (yum!), and I definitely have discovered the joys of keeping it simple, but a few 'complications' aren't bad either, for example, it is no fun playing scrabble with a simpleton! I like to play with someone who will kick my a$$ if I don't keep my mind on the task at hand and stretch myself further than I have ever stretched before! Sort of like life, hehehe... Life has definitely kicked my a$$ a few times! I have to really focus my energy and attention to bag the game!

Great post. The reason why I do the things that I do is because first of all I like to have nice things in life. I like to be able to enjoy life to the fullest and I know that I can't do that if I just sit around and wait on somebody else to hand things over to me. So I must handle my own bizness. Also I want to be a good example of what a honest hardworking person can accomplish for my children. If they see me up doing and going and being then most likely they will have a desire to get up and do some things. I learned about this from my parents and they learned it from their parents and I guess the cycle has just been going on and on every since the beginning. Anyhow, thanks for posting and it's nice to see that ur still around. Happy mylotting!

CJscott (1032) | 8 months ago | Most practical indeed. and most admirable I like the teaching your children to do it as well. Cheers, and I think I will be here for a long time, just every now and again, I will wonder off for a few days. I'm like that, go hard, take a break, go hard take a break, working towards going medium and not taking breaks, but adjusting habits is quite difficult.

CJscott (1032) | 7 months ago | Long wait for Child Care here too. My girl, is going to start up a daycare, so she can guarantee a spot for our son. That is a good why. You could dig a little deeper and make it a great why though I am sure. Cheers MoonChild.
