Based on the book writen by Philip Pullman, which forms the first part of a trilogy, the Golden Compass is an exciting fantasy adventure and set in alternative world. People's soul manifest themselves as animals called daemons. There are bears and gyptians fighting wars. It is directed by Chris Weitz (of the Antz and About A Boy fame) and stars Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig among an ensemble of cast. Did you watch the movie? Did you read the book which forms the base of the movie? Did you like the movie?

I remember sleeping throughout the entire running of this movie. LOL. I don't find the story very enjoyable and it is actually boring. But I think others might like it. Did you like it then.

The movie by itself -- It was not well made I feel and the book was better. But then that's how I feel about all the movies which are based on a novel. I like fantasy movies. But lets say there were movies than this.

I suppose I should read the book version. A lot of times book versions are more awesome than movies but I'm with you on fantasy movies, for I love them too.

I did not read the book and do not know anything about Pullman. But I did enjoy the movie The Golden Compass immensely. The special effects are simply the best I have ever seen, they are absolutely amazing and worth the price of admission. For those who complain that it was not realistic, I have to agree. Of course it isn't it's a fantasy, a place located in a parallel universe to ours.

I do like it, but I think you'd have to have read Northern Lights in order to really get it. I think there's too much detail missing to really be able to follow the plot. which is a great shame. my partner hasn't read the book, and I had to explain quite a few bits. but if you've read Northern Lights, it's an enjoyable, if slightly dissatisfying adaptation

I agree, but then most movies based on novels are dissatisfying adaptations.
