I often visit the library, because I love to read and it would get too expensive if I had to buy all the books that I want to read. I use the internet to search for books and if I can't find the books in the database of my own library, I just find them in another library and ask them to send the books to my local library. It doesn't take long to search for books or to make reservations, and the internet has made everything a lot easier. In the past I sometimes asked the librarians for help, but now I do everything on my own and I like being independent.

Yes, this system is really nice and convenient. I usually search for books at my local library first and if I can't find what I am looking for I log into a site called bibliotek.dk (=library.dk) and that site covers every library in the country. When I have found the book that I am interested in, I just write the name of the library where I want to pick up the book and after a while the book arrives. This system is definately an impovement compared to the old system that we had, I hope that your country creates a similar system in the future

So you can search and reserve for books in another library via internet?? That's cool. The library in my city doesn't have that facility yet, and I think I should recommended it to them.
Do we have to login first in the library website before we can access its search engine and reservation system?? And how do they send the books, is it via courier service???
The library in my city is still pretty old fashioned, I mean if we want to borrow books, then we have to come there ourselves. And to search for books, we can use the cataloque computers it provides there.
Last year they added free internet access facility too, which I think is great. But online reservation system like you mentioned above, we don't have that yet. I hope soon.
Thank you for the comment, it's a good one.

Hi, Natalia!
When I look at literally thousands of books on my shelves, I'm not thrilled to have spent all that money, now that my pay has been greatly reduced. Quite recently, a new public library was opened directly across the street from my driveway, so I plan to make use of it and stop spending on books. For research, though, either the computer will do the trick, or I go to the University libraries, where they have more academic sources.

Wow...a public library across the street of your driveway...that's awesome...now I envy you :)
The public library in my city is about 10-15 minutes drive from my place and it's good enough for me.
I used to spent so much money on books too, so that my mom said that I can open my own public library or even an atique book store :)
But now that I have become a member of the public library, then I can save some money to buy something else. Plus the free internet access it provides there can help me to limit my internet usage at home. I changed my internet subscription from unlimited access to just 200 hours per month.
Thank you for your comment cobrateacher.

I really love books that's why I still go to the national library. Since i am an irregular student i have very long breaks and i usually go to the library to bury my nose in a great literature book :)

I think there are still plenty of households that do not have access to the internet that go to the library to get online. I go to the library to check out books to read rather then buying the books myself.

I do still go to the public library.
When I didnt have a working computer, I went to the library when I needed access to the internet. Thankfully, I can now use my computer at home! But the internet is a good resource that the library offers.
I also regularly borrow books from the library. Sometimes there are things that you want to learn about that books are the best place to find the information. It doesnt always make sense to buy those books. I love to borrow cookbooks. Sometimes there are only a few recipes that I want out of the book. I can just copy those recipes rather than paying a lot of money for them by buying the book.
I also just love to read, so it is nice to be able to read for free.
For kids, it is a great thing. Kids books are short, so they can go through so many in a short period of time. With the library, it is possible to always have new books to read! I think borrowing the books also teaches something about responsibility and care for things that belong to others.

Thank you for your comment. Yes, I do agree with you about the advantages of public library.
I enjoy "hunting" for new books in the library. I said "hunting" because sometimes the book has already been borrowed by someone else...so I have to wait patiently until the book is returned...and grab it on the first chance...just like hunting zebra :)
