Where Do Find Local Listings of Charity Walks/Runs/Rides?

I've been able to find a few online but hardly anything is local. The few I have found that are local have been too expensive for me to participate in. But I feel like if I was training for something, I would exercise a lot more. Because I am naturally a giving type of person. I volunteer on weekends, I foster homeless pets all the time, and I even grew my hair out just to donate it. So I'm trying to motivate myself to exercise and I think that might help if I was actually running or cycling for a cause.

I cannot say that I have direct experience with this. I have a friend on MyLot who does the three day walk for the cure, I think in the fall. I would say, in your position, I would pick the charity I wanted to support and then search for it on the web. Do you have a United Way office nearby? They might have some information to help you. It sounds like a really good plan.

This might sound odd but check your local library. They are the hub of information around here. Any time you want to know anything, that's the place to go because everyone that works there is into something different. Most have bulletin boards too and people post up stuff there. Most of the charity events that involve sports are listed once a week in the newspaper. You can try calling them to see if they can point you to the section it would be listed in. See if there are any Yahoo Groups for it, you never know what someone is going to start a group about lol. Even better, if there isn't one, start one and send the link around or make up a small flyer to post at the library or if your grocery store has a board for public posting. Good luck!

Oh that actually sounds like a pretty good idea. It's been a long time since I've been to a library, but I do seem to remember seeing a bulletin posted. I will go take a look. I would start one, but I know I don't have that kind of time to actually organize one. But couldn't you just see it now, all of the people running for the guinea pigs? Now that would be a cool run!

Oh even better .. a walk WITH guinea pigs. A charity type thing where people bring their critters and walk and have others sponsor them. Since most piggies won;t walk all that far maybe you could do something at a local pet store in the parking lot. Hook it up with some small pet adoption places and get local eateries to donate some gift cards etc. Wow, now MY wheels are turning! Thanks for the best response

Hehe, that would be funny! I bet there are a few feed stores that would allow it though. Not sure the guinea pigs would walk all that far but people could carry them. I finally found a small running club out here that I'm going to join in a few weeks when I have more time. I think that should keep me motivated and maybe people there will know about some charity runs.
