Difference between losing inches and losing weight?

Well, I wouldn't say I am on a diet or anything but I am trying to lose weight. I am not very physical but I have cut back on a lot of things. for example, soda, juice, sweets and I have been eating healthier. I don't weight myself at all because I don't see the point until I start excerising. But I have people coming up to me and telling me I look thinner (which I love the complimants) but I know I haven't lost the weight. So could it be that my frame is getting smaller like I'm losing inches? And what is the difference between losing weight and inches? Any help thanks in advance

Hi there,
Losing inches is when you excersise and you firm and tone your muscles and trim that waistline. You get rid of all the flub in other words. You can still weigh nearly the same but you will look more fit. These people often look far better and healthier than someone who just loses a lot of weight. If you lose a lot of weight and don't combine it with excersise than you will have that saggy baggy look which is never good. If you haven't been excersising, I'm guessing that you've have probably lost a bit of weight. You should combine the excersize with the healthy eating. A lot depends on how much weight you are looking to lose. If it is a lot then you should start excersising as well. If it's only a few pounds maybe the healthier diet is enough.

Overall, I think losing inches is a better way to measure your progress.
Weight is just a number on the scale. There are tons of things that can affect it. What time of day you get on. The food you eat and the things you drink will make that number change. For women, the time of the month can also cause a change. The weight of your clothes can vary from day to day.
When you take measurements, not very many things will affect them. This is a better gauge for how much fat you have lost. That is really the goal. The pounds could be anything. It is the fat that no one wants!
A good example: All of those body cleanses you hear so much about. They will help clear out your intestines. AFter you have done it, you will have lost weight, so the number on the scale will be different. But you havent lost any fat, so your measurements wont change much. (There can be some small variation due to bloating.)
The other thing to consider when trying to lose weight is muscle. Many people begin to exercise, so they gain muscle. You may lose inches, but not pounds because muscle weighs more than fat.
Congrats on your start and the compliments!
