I just finished Anne Frank's diary of a young girl, and I wanted to learn more about the holocaust and the nazi occupation. Anyone have a suggestion for a book that I can read where I can learn about that time?

Corrie Ten Boom wrote a book called, "The Hiding Place" about being in a concentration camp. Her family wasn't jewish but they hid the jews and helped many of them get out of the way of the Nazis. Therefore, they were treated just like the jewish people. If you like young adult reading "The Devil's Arithmetic" is a very good book as well as "Number the Stars."

The Boy in Striped Pajamas is amazing. It's not non fiction or anything, but the story takes place in that time period and shows the innocence of all childremn, even those of Nazi army men. It's a short quick read and I highly recommend it.

Fiction books -all children/young adult: Number the Stars by Lois Lowry. Lisa's War by Carol Matas. Both are set in Denmark during the war. The Devil's Arithmetic by Jane Yolen. It's about a modern day girl sent back in time to Poland and has to go through the horrors of the Holocaust. It deals more with concentration camps then the others. The Upstairs Room by Johanna Reiss. It's kind of like Anne Frank, about two girls in hiding, only it's not in diary form. It's also based on a true story, just a fictionalized telling. Nonfiction - One of my favorite books is called Conscience and Courage by Eva Fogelman. It's about the people who saved or tried to save Jews during that time. It's an adult book.
