i was watching a documentary on it last night and it briefly said that it had been proven a hoax (not that im surprised) but didnt say anything other than that.. has it officially been deemed a hoax? if so where can i find out more info on it?? i have no idea who is reputable as a source on it so im hesitant to google and get a whole bunch of cracked out websites saying they have the truth when its some teenager trying to look official and has nothing legit on it..
do you think it was a hoax? and have any idea on a good place that may have studied the case that would be reputable?? thanks!!

I'm sure it's a a hoax. The Warrens were involved in the case of the hauntings and I recall reading a story on the internet from one of the children that lived in the house at the time, recalling how Lorraine would coach the woman into believing that things were really going on in the house and that things were all caused by supernatural forces that were rulling their home. The Warrens gained a lot of money from the publicity of the 'haunting' and came away with a book and other things so it definitely helped them become famous for being involved in what was supposed to be the biggest haunting ever.
I don't take very kindly to the Warrens. They strike me as people that are in it for the money. Everything that happens in 'haunted homes' according to the Warrens are caused by demons. It's not just a ghost, it's always demon, it's always evil and it's always out to destroy the people that live there. Then, the people that live there, have to pay the Warrens to remove it and what not. It's all one big scam and they're really making a killing.

well the warrens assume demons since they are religious which i find funny since she is clairvoyant or something and usually religious people dont believe in that lol..
i saw several things with the warrens and the way they always described things it just seemed so dramatic as if they were really trying to play it up.. not like a scared or realistic way of explaining it..
i didnt know they charged to remove it.. that right there just proves they are fake..

I personally believe the Amityville Horror is a completely hoax. It's a good possiblity that the Amityville horror is a combinations of several different stories and the Warren's helped pull the whole story together. I don't like that these peopel fake these things when there is lagitament shared evidence and they won't share anything.

Actually there have been a few shows which debunked the Amityville horror and the authors of the book have been sued by a few of the people both mentioned in the book and related to the victims.
Neighbors and childhood friends of the victims have stated that such things as the hidden red room was just a space under the basement stairs that was paneled and used as a "fort" and the kids themselves painted it red. Because that's what was in the can of paint they found.
And then there's the fact that "Butch DeFeo's lawyer claimed to have thought up the whole story along with the Lutzes.

I saw a expose on it many years ago on TV. Shot the whole story full of holes. Went to specific locations in the house and showed how most of it could not possibly have happened because no physical evidence was left. Don't remember a lot of the details because it was a very long time ago.
