1. hoghoney (2408) | 7 months ago | Yes it is normal and at the age of 4 try not to make a big deal of it...I have two boys of my own and they did the same thing at that age...it's just a boy thing.

| 2. freyjamoon (57) | 7 months ago | yes unfornately it is normal. i have 4 boys and they all did it. i thought the same thing and used to tell em to leave it alone or itll fall off and leave it alone itll grow on its own etc. but in the end as long as its not happening in public i was told to just let it go as it apparently is normal healthy growth.
ty good luck

3. highflyingxangel (9005) | 7 months ago | Yes, this is normal, but boys aren't the only ones that do it, girls do too. I work with preschoolers and it's common. When it occurs you can do one of two things, ignore it or call attention to it and remind them that it's nothing something that should be done in public. Redirect their attention to something else, a favorite toy, TV show, book, whatever and keep at them. Eventually they will grow out of it. Young kids are curious and will explore everything, including their bodies.

| 4. vpapstein (33) | 7 months ago | Yes it is very normal. Although it is odd to see remember little kids are curious and they like to explore things. Anatomy is just another part boys and girls explore.

| 5. Tjmoney22 (24) | 7 months ago | Unfortunately they do. I have a six year old, who just turned six in March, and at the age of five he started to discover his manhood, or should I say boyhood, I would catch him at bath time, which is when he seemed to do it all the time. I guess he was just starting to notice that there was some kind of feeling down there. He did it for a couple of weeks, but now he doesn't do it anymore. I don't know if it was because he was just curious and outgrew it, or stopped because of me flipping out on him, but I haven't caught him doing it for a while(hope I'm not speaking to soon). I really lost my mind when I saw him doing that. I had to give myself a timeout, and really step back and evaluate the situation, if I would have reacted at that moment, lord only knows what would have happened. I called my sister, who has a 14 year old son, to ask her if that was something that little boys do, and she talked to me, and let me know that it is indeed normal. At that time, I was so unprepared for that. Why didn't she,or someone, anyone warn me that this was going to happen. It's a lot to digest, but just look at it this way, it's what all little boys do.

| 6. azlin_04 (55) | 7 months ago | Hello There!
Do not worry too much! at this age the boys starts to notice their parts of body, you know. My 9yr boy just started when he is 6yrs and I just advise him that it is not good to show it in public and also not good to his health if he always play with himself!!
They just curious...that's all. It also happens to girls!! But we as parents need to monitor and prepare to advise....

8. mjhicks (297) | 7 months ago | Completely normal.... Once the new novelty wears off he shouldn't be too preoccupied with it. Now is a good time to start teaching him about privacy and personal hygiene.

10. savetheunlikely9 (346) | 7 months ago | Yupp, it's perfectly normal. It even happens when kids are babies - it feels good, and they haven't learned about privacy yet. If you're concerned, tell him about making sure he's alone, but other than that, let it go. He'll grow out of it, soon enough.
