Okay...so this is the first year I have ever tried to keep a garden.
So far, I am ding quite well I must say. I have a small vegetable garden with lettuce, green beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, and onions.
Yesterday I bought some pumpkin seeds, melon seeds (watermelon and cantaloupe) and my boyfriend, bless his heart, finally bought me the miss kim lilac tree that I have been asking for. I LOVE LILACS!!!!!
ANyhow, is there anything I need to know about lilacs before I pick a spot in he yard to plant them? Do they need constant sun or shade? I dont want to kill them.
Also, how do I plant the melon and pumpkin seeds? Should I put them straight into the ground or should I start them off in small planters and transfer them later. And do they need a lot of sun or shade?
I want to grow big pumpkins for the kids in the fall!
Any tips would be appreciated because I seriously do NOT have a green thumb! LOL

If you live in a moderate climate, you can put the melon and pumpkin seeds directly in the ground. Follow the directions on the package. Pumpkins take a LOT of room, so plan accordingly. Both pumpkins and melons like sun.
Lilacs like sun. Dig a hole about twice as big as the root ball and twice as deep, put some compost and/or peat moss with the dirt and mix it up really good, then plant the lilac at the point where the trunk becomes root, spread the roots gently and cover with the soil, pack down lightly, and water.
You can also talk to it and gently touch it.
Really.
Really.

Thank you!
As for the lilacs, how long does it take for the tree to get big? I am guessing it probably wont get that big this year, am I right?
I can't wait for it to grow, I love the way they smell!

Lilac trees does very well in full sun, mine keeps expending every year slowly but sure. Pumpkins seed you put 5 seeds per hill. Watermelon like warm weather if you have a cool summer they won't like it. when you plant tomatoes start them indoor at least a good 2 months 1/2 before transplanting them. You can do the same with the cucumbers but they grow a lot faster. All kind of squash grow fast indoor if you are not ready to plant them outside yet start them later like only 3 weeks to a month before transplanting it.Most veggies like to be in full sun. Good luck.
