Detroit, MI.... what do you think of when you hear that?   

I don't think of the problems right now, but I do think of cars, that's for sure.

when i think of Detroit mi i think of my brother he lived there for years and worked for chysler. i went to visit him in 1964 my first vacation after i started to work.i knew Madonna was from detroit but knew nothing about the others.nothing much is around this area ut Martin is about 16 miles from me. the banana festable used to be 6 miles from me.Goodyear tire plant 10 miles away it sure is exciting around here.lol

Lately, and mostly because of the news, I think of the auto industry. Usually, though I think MoTown music

the first things i have in my mind that i can associate with the city of Detroit is cars surely..but also something like music as you mentioned..Eminem,kid rocks...also a factory city....
It si true that The red wings won the stanley cup but i like more Anheim Ducks...so this is not a thought coming in my mind...:)

Whenever I think of Detroit, Michigan, I think of cars. I didn't know that the automotive companies were having problems, though. I don't pay any attention to the news that much. I also remember the Motown Sound of the '60s. I remember groups like Diana Ross & The Supremes, The Jackson Five, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Martha & The Vandellas, etc. They were all good musicians.

I live in Jasper, Alabama and we were noted for the coal industry for a long time. However, so many coal mines have been shut down for several years. Some people still work in them, though. That part I don't understand. You may remember George Smith Lindsey, who played "Goober" on the Andy Griffith show. He is originally from here. Also, Tallulah Bankhead, an old actress, was originally from here. She's been dead a long time now. She was in a lot of old movies. Her old house is still here in Jasper and we used to live down the street from that house. It's a big one, too. I'm sure you've also heard of Taylor Hicks. He was an American Idol winner a few years ago. He was from Birmingham but his parents live here in Jasper. His daddy makes dentures. You may have heard of Sandy Posey. She is from Jasper, too. She was a singer back in the '60s. She had hits with songs like "Born A Woman", "Single Girl", "I Take It Back", to name a few. Jasper is about 43 miles northwest of Birmingham and I'm sure some of youall remember the civils rights movement in the '60s and all the things that went on back then. Youall might remember when the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham was bombed in 1963 and four little girls were killed. That was so sad! Kathy.

this is rude, i know it, and i apologize. but this also makes me smile. when i read or hear about detroit, i always think "dirt-troit". that is what my late father called it, and he had spent a great deal of time there.

i have no idea how accurate my father's nickname for the city is, nor do i care. "dirt-troit" reminds me of my much loved and missed daddy. in my heart that city will always be called "dirt-troit".

Motown. "Don't Forget the Motor 'City!" I'm a child of the sixties, so when I think of Detroit I think of all those great Motown records. They had a good beat and you could dance to 'em.
Here we don't have any big claims to fame. Not that I know of musically anyway.

When I think of Detroit, I think about the MGM and Greektown casinos, and wishing I was there. I just live an hour south of Detroit. Its sad when I see the decline in a once vibrant historical city. I didn't know about the movie studio, thats a good thing. I would love to see Detroit make a big comeback.

Hmmm, I think about the auto companies, Eminem, urban, gunshots lol.

I am from Ontario California, part of what they call the Inland Empire of Southern California. I think of cows, hot weather, also very cold weather. desert, malls, barren fields, tumbleweeds ^_^
