Do you think motorcycle riders should wear helmets? |
| |
| While I was in Indiana, I saw several motorcylce riders witout helmets. I questioned my b/f about it because in my state it is required to always wear a helmet. I am all about personal choices but after further research I found there are several states in which there is no helmet law. I personally would not ride without one but I was raised in a place where you couldn't. What do you think? Should everyone wear them or do you think it's ok that they don't? Is there a helmet law where you are? | | | | | |

| | Here in Finland you have to wear a helmet even when riding a regular bike. I think everybody should wear helmets when riding with big motorcycles or/and going fast. If you're not going too fast and you're riding something like a normal bike or a small motorcycle and don't do any tricks with it, wearing helmet is not mandatory in my opinion. It's still a good thing though. | | | | | | |

| | Heyya IronMaiden! I'm all about personal choices. I would be very uneasy to say the least if I was on one without a helmet. Things can happen so quickly. I guess they were just so used to not wearing one that they don't really think about it. Thanks for the response. | | | |

| | Ofcourse motorist should and must always wear or use helmet because it is for your own safety. If u love your life you must follow the safety procedures, because its not only you will be benifited fr0m wearing a helmet plus u can avoid disturbing other people,we cant predict when accident(s) will happen so we must be very careful by taking necessary preacautions isnt,we always think and puT it on our mind that safety first before anything else | | | |

| | In the UK it is illegal not to wear a helmet on a bike. I have a GSX-R750 which does 170mph. I would never think of riding without a helmet even if you had the choice. Wearing a helmet has saved thousands of motorcyclists over the years. Too many people just get on a bike wearing normal clothes which are completely useless as protection if you crash. I have had 2 bad crashes and if I wasn't wearing protective clothing I would have been more seriously injured than I was. | | | | | | |

| | Wow..sounds like a heck of a bike you have! I can see where your coming from on the prtective clothing. Regular clothing just doesn't have what it takes against pavement. For the most part it is illegal in the US not to wear one but there are still several states that leave it up to the rider. Thanks for the response. | | | |

| | I do think that they should wear helmet because you never know when you will run into an accident and if you do, he helmet is the only protection you can possibly have. I mean the motorcycle cannot offer any form of protection should there be a car accident and therefore everybody riding on them should at least have a helmet that at least gives them the least possible protection. | | | | | | |

| | I agree that things happen very fast. There isn't any protection accept for what the rider is wearing. Sometimes it's other's mistakes that we have to prepare for and we can never know when they will make them. Thanks for the input. | | | |

| | Hi JenInTN, Well I think that wearing helmet is a necessity while riding a motorcycle, it is for the protection of the rider. I used to ride a motorcycle with my husband or son and even though it is hot and heavy we always wear helmet. I think other rider don't understand why they need to wear the helmet or maybe they just don't want to wear it for they think thier head are harder than helmet. Thanks, can you be my friend? | | | | | | |

| | Sure..I just accepted your friend request. I look forward to our interraction here and wish you the best. I think that a lot of the reason some are still not wearing them is because they are used to not doing it. Sometimes these things are done out of habit or law. I agree it is more dangerous not to wear one. I have enjoyed some rides myself but could never dream of not wearing a helmet. Thanks for the response and friend request. Take care. | | | |

| | you have to pay a much higher insurance premium to go without a helmet from what I understand. I had a friend who was a nurse in the E.R., she said that helmets caused broken necks, but no helmets were "organ donors." | | | | | | |

| | Hmmm..that's interesting. It's ski masks and pantyhose here that they use. In some places here it is not required to wear them. Most places it is. Thanks for sharing and take care. | | | |

| | In Australia you are required to remove your helmet before entering any bank or financial institution. It would be silly to have the security cameras running and not be able to identify the criminal. | | | |

| | Hi John4Christ! I can see what you mean about time and place. At lower speeds and limited view I can see why they would be a burden for some. It really amazed me that I saw so many people not wearing one. Thank you for the input. | | | |

| | I think it is very important to wear a helmet. As a nurse i have seen people who thought it was not important. I seen what going at 55 miles per hour and hitting a pole head on will do to you. So yes please wear a helmet. I would hate for you to be the next one hurt from not wearing one. Have a bleseed day. | | | | | | |

| | For Missouri it has recently changed. You only need a helmet on the highway. I am not sure if it applys to all ages though but I know its that way for adults. I do not ride motorcycles so i really do not know what to think on this. | | | | | | |

| | Thanks for the info muscles! I had no idea there was a "happy" median to this law. I thought it was either yes or no. I don't ride very much either..practically none now. I just couldn't imagine not wearing one. Take care. | | | |

| | I wish I could show every bike rider pictures of what came into the Emergency room before there was a helmet law. One of the main reason these laws have passed is the expense to the community to pick up the pieces from those accidents. If the person survives often the expense of caring for them the rest of their lives often falls to the taxpayers. All this just to feel the wind in their hair. | | | | | | |

| | Jen, as usual, thought provoking topic! Sometimes people like me, & savypat feel like we are talking "wind thru the ears!" Seeing is believing, but why, oh why does the general public need a graphic picture? I just rode my E-bike to do some shopping (LOL) on this rock....I paid nearly as much for my helmet as my bike, I can replace the bike, not my brain! I read some responses that said, low speeds, no helmets needed....HUH...the car that HITS you can be travelling at 90! Another response was visibility...HELLO..there are helmets out there that have NO restrictions...............JEN ... good on you...you got me going! Luv ya! | | | |
