Yesterday i told everyone i could not ride a bike. When my oldest son was young he would introduce me as THIS IS MY MOM, SHE CAN'T RIDE A BIKE, SHE CAN'T SWIM & SHE WALKS LIKE A PENGUIN IN THE SNOW..Not a word about any good things i could do, lol. so now i'm telling u i never learned how to swim. My parents use to take us to the lake alot, don't know why we weren't taught to swim. Guess it was because they didn't swim either. I made sure both my sons took swimming lessons. how about u , CAN U SWIM?? CAN YOUR CHILDREN??

So now it's about swimming, eh? I was born and grew up just about 300 meters away from the sea. When i was young my father tried to teach me how to swim but i only swallowed salty water that had hurt my throat and brought tears to me eyes! A few years after that a cousin also tried to teach me how but did i learn? No. I used to frequent the beaches in our place whether with my family or my friends, enjoying picnics and i wished i could swim but well, i can't so i was just happy and contented floating with an inflated inner tube of a tire around me! I haven't been to a beach for about seven years now but we have our church's annual family day that we hold in private resorts and it was only two years ago that i learned how to float after having been laughed at by my husband because my feet seemed to have invisible lead weighing me down! And i did finally managed to move myself some four meters wall to wall and that's it, never been in a pool since then! Antiquelady, come on now, what else do we have in common?

Not very darn well! When I was 8, I almost drowned. Stepped in a hole and went under for awhile. Had CPR done. I get in the water and I enjoy splashing. I learned the dog paddle, which doesn't really get you too far, but it keeps me above water till someone gets out there to pull me in. I made sure my daughter knows how to swim. As for myself, I just stay in the shallows. If my feet can't touch bottom, I ain't getting in! I'm perfectly happy that way. I am not exactly comfortable with the thought of water being over my head!

BLESS YOUR HEART, U are brave to even get in the water. when i was a teenager we had to go to a pool in the next towm. Some mean boys decided that it would be fun to dunk me & i thought they were going to drown me before someone came to my rescue. That pretty well did it for me. yes, i can cook pretty well i have been told.. one of my few talents. HAVE A HAPPY DAY. THANKS FOR YOUR RESPONSE.

He told people you walked like a penguin in the snow?! Well, if it makes you feel any better, my sister told people my mom barks like a dog. That got her some strange looks. My dad can swim, but neither me, my mom, nor my sister can. Truthfully, I can swim under water. But not above water. I thought I was just weird, but I read several months ago that it was more common that people thought. My sister could dog paddle to save her life, but I wish we all knew how to swim.

Isn't that nice, being introduce by your son and all together with something you're not good at. I would be embarassed if every i were in your shoes and If I have a kid and he/she would tell her friends about that i would seriously get upset. but i guess it's way for them to know what i don't want and can't do. Well, i can swim but not that good because I get exhausted easily. it's not too late to take swimming lessons, unless you have an ear problem..

We learn't to swim with the school. Not that I go that often anymore. My two kids used to go weekends with their dad ,he used to teach them to swim. They loved it as it was about the only time they saw him. They also went swimming with the school and swim very well.My youngest son his dad does not like the water. He braved up when he realised our son could not swim .so we took him twice a week,my daughter took him once a week ,and he went with the school once a week as well. After about six weeks of intensive swimming at the age of nine he got it.We live near a river so learning could come in very handy.Another good thing as well my husband lost his fear of the water and started to enjoy the wave pool ect, which killed two birds with one stone.

I learned to swim in college. When we went for lessons there was always a mom there who was teaching her baby to swim. Later when I had my own children I made up my mind that I would do the same with them. I did and they swam almost before they could walk.

my mother could swim, but not well. She wanted us to swim better than she did, so we went to lessons. I also think she wanted us out of her hair for an hour or so.

I am a really strong swimmer as is my hubby but we rarely go these days because its soooooooooo expensive and we have two boys age 2 and 3. They love it and are total water babies so when they're old enough I'll let them have swimming lessons as I did when I was younger.

I love swimming. I grew up bu the sea and I learnt to swim at an early age. When my boys were small we dammed a one of our rivers and made a swimming pool for them. Every evening we would go down and they all learnt to swim at around two years. The daughter took a lot longer but she could swim by about 8 years old.We all can swim in my family. I am sure that you do do all sorts of things that I and others cannot do. Blessings

Lol dont feel bad Antique I cant swim either nor can I ride a motorcycle or drive .With regard to swimming I guess my mom couldnt swim either and she was really afraid of me drowning so she never did take me to any lakes or rivers or sea. With regard to the driving I guess this might sound lame but I dont have a car and I guess I was never motivated and I hate motorcycles because it offers no protection in case of an accident .But I would give an arm and a leg to see that Penguin show walk of your lolol

u ARE AS BAD AS MY SONS TO TEASE ME, I LOVE IT. U do need to learn to drive. That penguin walk is a sight to see. I hate snow anyway. The only good thing about not being able to work anymore is that i don't have to get out in bad weather & drive or walk.

I love swimming. I've been trying to get out to the pool to teach my daughter. She's 3 and loves the water also. She's a little nervous about venturing out of the "baby pool" but I don't thik she'll have a problem after she gets used to it. My nephew learned to swim when he was a baby though. My sister lived in a condo with a pull and put him in water baby classes.

THAT'S GREAT!! I THINK THE BEST TIME FOR CHILDREN TO LEARN WHEN THEY ARE YOUNG LIKE THAT. They don't have the fear that older people do when they are trying to learn. my grandson who is 4 has been going to his other grandmothe's pool since he was born. i'm so glad they took him.your daughter will come out of that baby pool when she is ready. bet she's a cutie. i love kids . THANKS FOR YOUR RESPONSE.

KIDS get smarter than their parents "they think". . don't pay any attention to them. they'll come back around mine do. when they ask me what i think i tell them & they go right on & do what they want.. that's good , then when they goof up they can't blame u. lol

Another downside of me here. I am such a dull person, I can't paddle on the bike and neither can I swim. I have phobia for deep waters and never dip my self even in the pool. Unfortunately I never see the importance of learning to swim and did not send my kids for swimming class.

Hi Antiquelady! I think my dad can or could swim and my mom I know can't or doesn't know how and is very fearful of water. My two brothers and I do know how to swim although I'm not very good at it but I can swim some. My brothers tried to teach me but I couldn't get the gist of it so when I went to summer camp with the 4H club, I was taught there. Our three God kids know how to swim, they were all taught as babies on up. You can still learn yourself with lessons, why don't you do that?

I don't know how to swim either. I do have plan to do swimming lessons but always not pushing through due to tight schedule. But our family loves to go the beach and quite funny why up to now I do not know how to swim. During college, we were asked to choose from different options which Physical Education we would take, instead of taking swimming, I took folk dancing and calisthenics. Now, I am in my 50's and still could not swim. Nevertheless, I could dance and is very good in calisthenics anyway. Ha!ha!ha!
