I was working on my computer all a sudden some program flashed talking about I need to download a program so I won't be infected, do you trust sources like that? my girl-friend told me that some program popped up telling her to download this program to keep form being infected, she got a Virus doing so. I alresdy have Avg, and it runs about 3:00am everyday. should I trust this program or let my my Avg do the Job? I get confused about this?

11. roseyroser (727) | 7 months ago | Those popups are common - and very annoying. Do NOT trust the program. I've worked in the IT department and several people got that popup. Some of those programs just install a program and tell you that there is a virus on your computer. Other popups install the program and download several viruses to your computer.
If you are on a windows computer you can go CTRL-ALT-DELETE, click on task manager, and end the task of your browser and the popup. That way, you won't have to restart your computer. After the task is ended your computer is fine, and you can continue browsing the internet - just try to avoid that website where you got that popup.
I've been to a legit website - some local online newspaper, and ended up getting one of those popups. I think someone hacked into the newspaper's website and somehow was able to put in a script to run the popup - not good! As long as you know what to do when you get one, you are fine.

13. gemini_rose (10121) | 7 months ago | I have had this happen on my computer before now and I never trust it. I have norton anti virus and it it is brilliant and always up to now has stopped any threats to my computer so I never believe anything else. My mum fell for that and it cost her a lot of money to put her computer right again.

14. jessi0887 (2507) | 7 months ago | Your girlfriend is right. I did the same thing once and got a virus. Bad thing was it was my work computer and it caused alot of problems. Still hasn't fully recovered either. So whatever protection you have on your computer just leave it to that. And dont click on that stuff that pops up. It most likely is bogus and will be a virus.

15. imsilver (1455) | 7 months ago | Alot of those are just ads. If you are running a virus catching program on your computer that you trust, just ignore them. I put them in the same categories as those banners that announce your the 1000th visitor and just click to win millions. It's just a lure to get you to their site and eventually have you forking out money for something that you really don't need.

| 16. appleeater1990 (14) | 7 months ago | No it does no always meanthat you are infected, it does however mean that someone has hacked into your commputer in one way or another. I had this happen to me before. I recomend that you download Avast. It will help protect you from this happening in the future. I have been using it for over a year, and nothing has ever got into my computer. If you do not have a firewall or securety system for your computer you should not go onto myspace, alot of virises are lurking around on ther just waiting for an open computer to grow in..

17. CraftyCorner (2694) | 7 months ago | You got either a virus or a bit of malware. Avg won't help if you've got malware. You need a malware removal tool for malware. Windows Defender works. * http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/defender/default.mspx * http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php * Together they make a good defense against this crap alongside a good antivirus. A popup blocker is a good idea too. Firefox is my recommended browser. Get the add ons AdBlockPlus & NoScript.

18. onlinerep01 (419) | 7 months ago | Hello, I nevr trust pop ups like this, and for this very reason I have disabled my pop ups, I never want to see them. These day in time I have noticed that people will d many things to make money, and sad to say indluding lieing and deceive people. When I see these kind of pops ups that reads I need to download this soft ware and that software, I know it is all about advertising to make money, and what some companies do is offer you a 30 day free trial, then when your 30 days are up then they hit you with a bill, wanting you to subscribe to them for their services. So I just stay far away from it all together. Happy My Lotting!

20. newzealtralian (2687) | 6 months ago | That warning is a huge con! It tells you to download the product, and then it asks for your credit card number, but it says that it is a free software to use. It happened here too, and the only way I could reject it was to shut my computer down as it wouldn't let me do anything with my computer, even though I hadn't clicked on it. It wasn't until I went and did some research about it that I realised what it was. Promptly, I installed AVG (full version that I have 2 year subscription to), which found the spy ware the other one had installed (for marketing purposes of course) and dealt with it. Problem solved, and that add has not taken control again.
AVG is very good. I find that I have to tell mine off as it turns a little over protective at times.
Do not let this other program take over your systems security if you have AVG- AVG is better than an unproven service (the name of the other is never even given-just the links to it). AVG has complete programs that will warn you if you are going to open a website that is infeted, and you should trust that.
