My fiance and I are getting married at the end of the month. We are having a low key "reception", pretty much a big party at our house. I already have the dj booked, and the cake ordered. I just have to figure out food now.
What do you think is the best dishes to have at a wedding reception? Should we keep it simple but tasteful? I'm not real sure. Thanks for any input.

Hey tlb! Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! Being that
you are having a reception in at your house you have a number
of ways to actually go with the food! It depends on what you
like and what you think your guests would like! If you are
getting it catered you want to check around for pricing. You
could get some hot dishes like lasagna, some chicken dishes
and then maybe you could also get some salads too! Being that
it is a summer wedding and it is at your home you can have
hot and cold dishes and it would be a really nice mix! Maybe
you could go to a place that you trust like a deli or caterer
and see what kind of menu they would suggest so you can get
an idea of what you might want. They can plan a menu to include
horderves too!

It depends on budget. Normally for wedding receptions here it will be lavish affairs with many varieties of food especially catered for that occasion. There will be something around 7 - 8 kinds of dishes which among others deep fried chicken, stewed beef, sweet sour pork and vegetables plus desserts. It is normally held in a community hall but for those well-off people then it will be a sit-down dinner in hotels.
