I just came into a little money! I think investing in my home would be a good investment for the long term. I got $10,000 to invest. Do you have any suggestions? On a small budget like that!

I read a long time back that some people keep a dirt floor in certain countries, no linoleum, no wood, no carpet. I guess this is as earth friendly as one could get, lol. If I had enough dough, I'd like to have solar panels installed on the roof of our house. I'm not sure how much that would be, and I'm afraid to find out.

I would top up on insulation and get solar panels. We do have loft insulation, but our cavity wall insulation was done about 30 years ago, and I think that it deteriorates. Having low energy lighting is a good idea as well.

we just redid our living room because there was no insolation in it so my husband redid it so now we don't use as much heat in the winter which is really nice. plus it got done pretty cheap because my husband does all the work himself , he also does work on other people house , when we get the money we are going to redo the kitchen as well.

I would probably have solar energy so as not to use electricity anymore and it cuts down the budget to pay bills. I would have garbage segregation.... 10k dollars is a huge amount if you convert it to our monetary unit. since i love to cook, i would buy stainless stove with all its amenities, i would have a marble island, a pantry for the groceries. The laundry should be adjacent to the kitchen for convenience. i would make my bathroom bigger and more functional. like a dresser inside the bathroom and sliding door for the shower.

Nice thought but solar electric systems are very expensive, if your putting them in when you build it's cheaper! But a retrofit is harder to do, you need lots of batteries and a store room for them. To save the most money, if you only use them during the day, it works but your not getting all the benefit of the panels! I've installed those systems before! wink tdemex

Hey haven't seen you around for a while! I've been doing construction most of my life. Solar is a good idea but way to expensive and requires a messy retro fit! But something for you that would pay off is solar hot water, I don;t know if you use gas or electric (probably electric in FL.) either way it'll save you some bucks! One of the benefits is you can also throw in a hot tub! I've done this for people in the past and they love it! Even in FL. is hot tub is nice, I used to live in Lauderdale! Don't forget the rebate on your taxes! wink fdemex
