Do certain scents remind you of things you've done or places you've been?

For me, if I walk outside and the air is crisp and clean, it always reminds me of my younger years growing up in Arkansas. How about you?

There's a certain smell in the fall that takes me back to life on the ranch. It's cool and crisp, with a hint of wood smoke. I smell it now and then even in the city and away my mind goes to old memories.

The scent of the air is so powerful for me as well. It reminds me of very happy memories of being in Arkansas, and even now when I smell it--especially in fall and winter--it makes me want to go back in time and relive my childhood. Happy MyLotting!

hi coolcoder our sense of smell (olfaction) is handled by the same part of the brain )the limpic system) that handles our memories and emotions. So sometimes when we smell something familiar it can bring us back to a happy time . . like for me the smell of cut grass brings me back to summers spent in the country when I was a small child. Another one is a certain perfume .. that my aunt who passed away years ago used to wear . .I am not a lover of most womens perfumes but when I smell this one . . it always make me think of her. It also helps us respond to those we meet and can influence our mood, and who we talk to and who we may want to see again!! Lotting to you!

I hear you about the perfume/cologne thing. There is a certain cologne that, every time I smell it, I start thinking about this guy I hung around with a few years ago. It's not a pleasant memory, unfortunately, because that was a time when there was so much drama going on, and he was right in the middle of it. Thanks for responding! Happy MyLotting!
