Am I the only one?

Well, I have central air and am grateful for it. But several of my co-workers do not have their air conditioners in yet(they have the window units). I have become very used to having air conditioning when it gets hot. Like most modern conveniences, we become spoiled by them and miss them terribly if they go on the fritz.

The worst I had to deal with was when I was living in Texas, had just gotten out of the hospital after having my gall bladder removed and the central air was out at home at the end of June. So temps were steady in the 90's. We had ceiling fans and I was on pain killers so it was survivable.

Hey kats! I have two sleeve a/c's, but I almost never dare
use them because I just can't afford too and that's the truth!
I usually use fans all summer! If it is impossibly hot I might
run the bedroom one for as long as it takes to cool off the
room and then back to the fans! I just can't afford the
outrageous electric bills! That is no joke! So I don't make
fun of anyone who doesn't have an a/c because as far as I'm
concerned neither do I!

i live in chicago where the summers are hell and the winters are freezers. well actually, the summer is kind of decent. anyway, we dont have air conditioning. we have the window units and we were supposed to get central air, but we're basically content for now. so now, you're not the only one. lol

My husband just put in our air conditioner a small one that is a room one I guess. It has been sweltering out and he finally put it in as things were melting...We have a few coloring pages that were colored with crayons hanging up and it got so hot in my trailer(in triple digits!) that the crayons coloring melted into the page and ran..before that we just dealt with having one fan in the living room going and a small desk top fan only when I am in my computer room. The living room and kitchen are blocked off to stay cool so I waited till it cooled tonight to get on the computer since it had been so suffocatingly hot. Where I was used to the heat the air conditioner made me feel like I was freezing and I had it set on 65 and that felt way to cold so I set it on 69 and still felt chilly. I feel sorry for my parents and little sister who are dealing without fans or any way to stay cooled right now since they moved and right now have not had the electric turned on as yet. I am hoping they can get a generator soon.

You're not alone, me too I felt am dying with the extreme heat I sufferred the moths that passed and even in early days of this month. Good it's raining now from time to time. I have high blood pressures so really I feel heat everywhere, everytime what I do, I go to the mall at around 1 to 4pm and back home at 5pm just to escape heat. I really do get sick of this heat. Though electric consumption costs would be that unaffordable still am dreaming to have an aircon next time.

I don't have an airconditioner at home and none in my office, too. I have lived all these years without A/C but our environment have changed. Global warming has hit and now when it is supposed to be rainy season here i feel the heat in my body and i know that it aggravates my not very healthy condition. I can do with just the fans but what concerns me and my hubby is when i am asleep and i wake up in the middle of the night feeling the sweat on my back. The Philippines being so very near the equator gets most of the heat from the sun and the very warm temperature plus high humidity really gets me so weak. It is very uncomfortable and almost suffocating! We are considering buying an A/C just to keep me away from other health problems because in my case saving in electric consumption is not worth it when i have to spend what we saved from that to buy medicines or pay for hospital bills.

In my own place at our hometown I don't have an air condition. Here, in my parents house they do have air conditions. We have one in every bedroom and one in the living room but we don't use it very often. Rating from 1 - 10 with 10 the most often, I'd say we are just at 1. We have to be practical nowadays. Frugal living that is.

I live in a tropical country so I'm used to feeling heat. But people are sometimes over reacting to things. Yes, there may be times that the weather is extremely hot but it's not gonna be like we won't be able bear with it. Sometimes the more we panic and complain about the heat the more we may feel hotter because we get tensed. If we try to just calm down and don't mind the heat and just relax, the cooler it may seem.

if im not mistaken your out in god's country by the big lake, wait,wait, did i hear hormonal id better be careful, and although you do get some nice cool air off the lake the summers are hot and humid but not long. i moved to florida in 98 and do i miss the mountains but i do need my air here at 8 last nite it was still 93 and humid the heat i can take but that humidity i cant. i've most likely have 30 years on ya so be nice to the old guy.....

nope, you're not. i don't have a/c too in my room, but my sisters and my parents does. fortunately, i have a very well air circulation in my room, plus a fan lol. that's enough for me dealing with this hot weather in Surabaya. trust me, my city has a very-very hot weather and it's not about season, but it is always hot. we'll be lucky a bit when it's winter season, at least the rain can help us cooling the air and the land.

o yeahhhh i did hear lots of complains from people arround me when they couldn't live a day or two without the a/c ufff..i mean, can't they suffer a bit??? there are so many people out there are more suffer than them, dealing with the very hot and cold weather, without having a roof upon them..

I'm not sure where you live but I live in Las Vegas and it gets really hot here during the summers. AC is a must or you would just suffer in this heat. I don't know what I would do without the AC in my home, I actually have 2 AC units, one for upstairs and one for downstairs and during the summer it is automatically set on 78. But its really only on from May until about Mid September. The electric bill does become outrageous though during the summer while the AC is running 24/7 for 5 months. I remember last July when it hit 110 every day by electric bill was over $600, which is half of my mortgage, can you say "OUCH!" but thank god this year the electric company decided to lower their rates because of the economy. I give you props for living without AC because I definitely can't do it, and while pregnant? thats really amazing. I would be screaming if I have to live through hot weather. I guess I could just always sit in the shower to stay cool but I would prefer having my AC. I consider it an essential to my home and everyday needs.
