He decided what to do... |
|
Have you ever let your child decide what you'll do that day?
Sundays are usually our family day. We try to pick an activity to do each week, even if it's as simple as going to the playground, or walking around the mall. We always try to get out of the house as a family every Sunday. After our outing we'll come home and watch movies in the evening.
So yesterday we were trying to think of what to do. I was going to leave the decision up to hubby since it was Father's Day and all.
Then my 3 year old comes in the room. While hubby was deep in thought about what we could possibly do.. I said to my son "Well, tomorrow is your birthday, why don't we let you decide... what do you want to do?" I didn't really expect an answer, I figured he'd just babble on about a bunch of things like he normally does, pretending to have a real conversation with me, you know how toddlers are. Instead of the babble, he says "I want see animals"
The zoo!! That's a great idea!
So we spent Father's Day at the zoo, and we had a great time.

| 1. 7diablos7 (9) | 7 months ago | yes i have definetetly let my kids decide where they want to go, i think its healthy to ask them so you can get a good idea what they want to do, apart from the odd suprise day out they pick most outings, usually they take it in turns to choose, we have a board on out kitchen wall with whos turn it is next, along with their star chart for good behavior at school, if they all get enough stars they get to pick where we go, which has been really good since we started doing it, hope you had a good a day out at the zoo anyway

2. meandmy3 (1328) | 7 months ago | My children love the zoo, it is getting too warm here to go, the animals stink. But the fall is just around the corner and we will go back. I plan to take the kis to the aquarium soon for the day. They love that as well.
We do the each child gets a day to select, we rotate Saturday's, for the most part, sometimes it will be Sunday after church.

meandmy3 (1328) | 7 months ago | Someone once told me that that was filmed at the one in Atlanta. They do a lot of photo shoots and commercials there. The kids love it and it is very educational.
I like it because it is inside and takes most the day. I am lucky that we live so close to a larger city that has one.
Do you have a Childrens Museum, my trio love them and we have one that has free days every week (which is nice)
ours has a grocery store, a post office, big trucks, a water station and so much more the kids love them
we also go to a ton of parks, we have some nice ones with hiking etc.

katsmeow1213 (4931) | 7 months ago | We do the parks. Hubby's job takes him to a lot of surrounding areas and whenever he sees a park or playground or something inexpensive that he thinks we'll enjoy, we go check it out. We do love to hike and things like that.
The closest museum is in Rochester, Strong Museum of Play. We've never been, but keep saying we want to. We do have the MOST here, which is a museum of science and technology. We haven't been there in years...costs too much to bring all the kids. My oldest wasn't impressed last time we brought him, although I know it has changed.

I think that it is also great that you all do things together on Sundays it shows a closeness and alot of love in your family that not alot of families have.

5. ZephyrSun (3508) | 7 months ago | That's really cool. My older kids don't like the zoo but they will go when I make them lol They got burned out on the zoo because their father's wife use to take them every Monday (in my city Mondays are free). My youngest really likes the zoo and had a blast the last time I took him.

katsmeow1213 (4931) | 7 months ago | We have a zoo membership at the moment, so can go whenever we want for free. We go three or four times a year, and we'll even drive to the zoo an hour away and go to that one as well, as we can get in there for free with our membership too. There are different animals there, so it's a nice change of scenery.

6. ravinskye (6270) | 7 months ago | That is so cute! We usually consult the kids when we are deciding what to do as a family. Our youngest hasn't voiced his opinion on it yet, but he is only 23 months lol. I asked him one day what he wanted to eat for lunch and I swear he said steak! I wish we made it to the zoo more often. We keep talking about going but we haven't made it yet.

| 7. pegwood (10) | 7 months ago | My Son and I have 1 day every month that is just our day. He is 5 and has been having a little bit of a difficult time with his new baby sister taking up all of Mommy's time so I made a deal with him a couple of months ago. 1 day every month would be just our day. He could choose what we do and we would leave his little sister at home with her Daddy while we were off just the two of us. He loves it and has chosen some fun things to do. From Sea World to just plain miniature golf. I actually look forward to our day every month.

8. di1159 (1529) | 7 months ago | What a wonderful and spontaneous surprise! Our daughter turned 14 on Sunday, and on Saturday night we decided to let her pick what she wanted to do, since all her good friends were on vacation and no one was in town to help her celebrate. She wanted to go to dinner and movie. Even though it was a bit out of our budget, we took her and then she dragged her macho dad to see a midnight showing up the movie "UP", much to his protests. He actually ended up liking the movie and were able to enjoy some family time.

| 9. RSmith5410 (1) | 7 months ago | I sometimes let my kids decide what to do for a particular activity for the day. Like we have Friday night family movie night. They are usually pretty good at picking something to do for the day. Not to mention their imaginations are way better than ours is lol.

10. cbjones (304) | 7 months ago | I don't have any kids. There are a few angry young women who would probably like to get back at me for some things that I either did to them, or their delusional "I'm never wrong, and you are the worst person who ever did exist for insinuating that I'm flawed as a human being." mindset by claiming that I have contributed to bring multiple children into the world.
Heh, they would probably point the finger at me if somebody else got them pregnant and ran out of them, instead of taking responsibility. But none of this really matters in terms of the question being asked. I've baby sat someone else's kids before. I can't imagine would it would be like to take care of my own sequel.
When taking care of a family members kid, I don't give them much leeway. They may end up saying some really hateful things, that would hurt me if I were their age and knew what lame cartoons they were referencing. I'm not going down for letting the young'un do whatever poorly planned stunt, or eat some strange food like mixture they drew a blueprint of, while using a green crayon.I'm sure other peoples kids come up with great ideas. They just have to wait till their parents come home before they can put any of them into action.
