Has anyone watched The Hobbit cartoon from 1977?  | |  I love this cartoon version of JRR Tolkien's novel, The Hobbit. It was made by Rankin Bass and it tells the story of how Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit, went on a journey with 13 dwarves and a wizard all the way to the Lonely Mountain to seek revenge on the dragon Smaug and get back the dwarves' gold and treasures.
The Hobbit is one of my favourite books and this is one of my favourite animated movies. Of course if they were to make an animated Hobbit now, I am sure they could do a much better job of it, but this one was done quite nicely for 1977. You can watch it on VHS or DVD and there is even someone who has posted it on youtube.com to watch for free.

Its odd you started this discussion right after i watched this. I didn't like it. Maybe if i was a child but it reminded me of the smurfs. I think when the movie comes out though that will like that more.
