Hi, Panathianaikos is the Greek national team which I support and they are the best in Greece. Has anyone else heard of them or had their team play against them, if so where did they play and who won?

Hi thea (or should it be son of thea), Greek team is very famous team after they won 2004 European cup. There is a lot of Greek player and they play all around the Europe. Those who follow the Champion League competition will know Panathianaikos. They qualify to the round of 16 in last year. This year they have Gilberto Silva (former Arsenal player) there and he is a very good player. But they are unlucky this year in champion league play-off match against Atlantico Madrid. But the still can proceed the European dream in the Europa league. Hope they can stay until the end there. Good luck and have a nice day.

Hi akuler, amazingly son of Thea is sleeping right now but i do know that the team who wears red are much despised in this area which only support the greens. I am frequently asked which football team I support and always answer the greens which shows I have good sense. No more free coffees for me if I said red in this area.

Hi thea, That is normal where there are two or more team in one place/town. I think the green is for Panathianaikos and the red is for Olympiacos Piraeus. Derby games is the most await games for this two rival teams. They always want to show who is in charge in that area. You got your free coffee all the time or only when your team win?

I don't think there's an European citizen that really loves football that didn't hear of Panathinaikos! Panathinaikos, Olympiacos and AEK Athens are good teams, well known at least in my country. My favourite football team, Steaua Bucharest, played against Panathinaikos in 1998, in a preliminary round of the Champions League. It was 2-2 in Bucharest on a Moon eclipse night, but Panathinaikos won 6-3 in Athens and went to the Champions LEague groups. I know Manchester United (another team I support) won 5-0 against Panathinaikos in 2003. Panathinaikos is a team used to play in the Champions League groups, which is something to be proud of, for a team in this part of Europe. I just took a look at Panathinaikos' team, but the only names I know are Karagounis, Katsouranis (winners of the Euro 2004 tournament), Vyntra (he played at Euro 2008), and Djibril Cisse (who played for Liverpool and Marseille in the past).

Hi stvasile, I have a confession to make here which I don't think will get me banned as it was a one off several months ago and I soon put a stop to itMy ten year old was intrigued by this new concept of mummy mylotting, and whilst I was in the shower added lots of interests to my lists which I had no interest in at all, including football. He also then typed up this question. I will show him your kind answer later, we are just on our way out any minute. Now after accepting your FR I went into your discussions hoping to respond back to a few, and discovered your great interest in football. Now my good friend Akuler has a similar interest and very kindly asked me not to respond to his discussions about football just to reciprocate his answers to mine, as it was patently obvious I had nothing whatsoever to add. So if nothing else from this may I introduce you to Akuler if you don't know him, you'll find him on my FL, and hope that you will extend the same invitation to me as he did, not to join in with football chats. I am aware of the Greens though and many locals assure me they are the best team n the world.

I'm not a real fan but I find it cool that my country has some influence in the league through trainers and players playing there as well as a few top players from all kinds of countries playing there. I think Greece has a stronger competition than we have. I consider my country as a better football country though but still your competition is better, it's worth my applause. ;)

Hi there diamania, I have just looked up your country to see where you are responding from and was surprised to find the Netherlands. I think that your team is very strong too, thanks for your applause for my team, good to know that we are noticed abroad.

Hi dbu, I don't know anything about football either except that I am expected to express my allegiance to the football team which is supported by everyone in this area which is Panaithinaikpos. However when I posted this question 3 months ago I was under the impression that this team was the national team of Greece but luckiy no one spotted my glaring error that in fact Greece is the national team of Greece. So together our knowledege of this sport is now growing
