Have you ever had an out of body or near death experience? |
|
I have read many times of people who have died, say on an operating table, and been resuscitated after a number of minutes. But they were considered technically dead before that. They tell of similar experiences of seeing a light, being drawn to it, and having peace and joy. Or they tell of being "outside" their body watching doctors and nurses work on them and hearing the conversations, etc.
Have you ever had such an experience? What was it like?

1. doormouse (1138) | 6 months ago | I don't know if you'd call mine an out of body experience as such, but 5 years ago i miscalculated my antidepressents,i went all sleepy,my eyes were apparantly rolling and i couldn't wake myself up properly for bout 4 hours, while i was in and out of consiousness i saw myself floating round the earth and also lying on the couch...Also i believe in spirits and stuff,my grandma who died years ago used to visit me every night, one night while she was there and i was sitting on the chair watching tv,i suddenly went into a daydream type state and i saw myself sitting in the chair, like my spirit had left my body and i was standing in the corner of the room

PeacefulWmn9 (2747) | 6 months ago | These are some very interesting experiences you've had. I think there is much about the soul we don't really understand, and yes, I believe in the existence of angels and spirits, even though not everyone sees them. Thank you for the sharing.

PeacefulWmn9 (2747) | 6 months ago | Hello...I will have to look up your discussion. I do think some of us are more aware of the spiritual side to us than others are. I am interested in reading about your own experience, so thank you for pointing the way to it.

5. cookiecrumbles (230) | 6 months ago | Actually, I have never had that kind of experience. But I have been the victim of a violent crime. I was stabbed 17 times and cut from my ear to my windpipe and remained almost docile. I was just kinda not in my mind while it was happening. I really can't explain what I mean. I just knew while it was happening that it wasn't my time to die. That I would be "OK"! While I was being stabbed and trying to keep him off me something said to me "play dead" and as he stabbed one more time and almost cut my left ear off and the blood was covering my face I just laid down on my bed and played dead and he left my room and ran out of the house. But before he left he stabbed my son in the face under his eye and it went threw his sinus and down threw the roof of his mouth. Now my kid can't smell anything thing anymore. But when they rushed me to the hospital the doctor said if I had not played dead and remained calm like I did I would have bleed out because of all the stab wounds I had and how deep they were. He said I was lucky. They had to open my chest to make sure none of the stabbings went in my heart or lungs. I was out of the hospital in three days. God really saved me.

PeacefulWmn9 (2747) | 6 months ago | What happened to you and your son is horrendous! I think perhaps your natural instincts kicked in, the way some wise animals will play dead when under attack. That or perhaps a self-protective mode to remove yourself from the pain of what was happening. I'm glad those instincts and a higher being were with you! Thank God you are both still alive.
Hugs, Karen

PeacefulWmn9 (2747) | 6 months ago | I believe you are right when you say we each have a guardian angel. If someone tries or does injure us, that angel helps us to remove ourself from the agony and go into a kind of neutral phase.

Danielle010507 (166) | 6 months ago | Oh yes, I think so. I think that's the reason why I woke up.
I also had this one story of my father. He was sick that time due to the cancer of liver. He was bedriddern for quites sometime and one day he just died. We all cried and try to figure out what to do first since he died at home. We were already preparing the things he need so that we can send him to the funeral homes when he sat down and asked for water. We couldn't believe ourselves since he reall was dead for 30minutes and the guy was bedridden for months. We gave him the water he asked and ask him what happened. He told us that he was dreaming that he was walking in a dark place but he can see a liitle light at the end of the road. he hurriedly went to the light and ending up seeing a white old man. Then the old man asked him his name which he answered also. Then the man look at a silver coin and told him that, "it is still not your time. Go back". Then he woke up. After a month, my father died with the same diagnoses.

9. tattylashes (4295) | 6 months ago | yes i have and it was horrible, it frightened the life out of me, last year after i had cance surgery i was poorly and i was in my bed under the influence of medication, i was laying there but i could see myself laying there, it elt like i had got up and floated away from myself, i also saw a bright light above me and i really thought at that moment i was going to die, i immediately got uo out of bed and went to get some fresh air but i will never forget that experience, it was a scarey moment for me.

PeacefulWmn9 (2747) | 6 months ago | Ack! That would be scary and such an eerie feeling. This is similar to other experiences I've read about, the fact that people are outside themselves looking at their own body. I am glad you came out of that, and thank for telling about it.

10. Annmac (789) | 6 months ago | I often have OBE's. It's usually before falling asleep but I've also had them at other times. I've had them all my life. The only way I can describe them is like a dream where you are watching yourself and yet still being aware of what you are doing. It's more like there are suddenly two of me and one is defying the laws of nature. I'm often floating above the scene or looking over my own shoulder. I've also experienced a near death experience. It was during the birth of my daughter and it was for me an uplifting experience. (I've heard of ones where the person experienced a kind of Hell!) I went somewhere very beautiful but didn't see anyone. I just had an over-whelming sense of peace and then a sudden urge to go back and the idea that I had much to do before I could return 'home'. I then saw the Doctors trying to revive me and I saw one holding a suture and asking how I looked then remembered nothing till I woke up. I remember two nurses talking and when I asked one of them later about why she'd called my baby a little doll she nearly freaked out! They were in the corridor not in the theatre! When I eventually saw my little girl the reason was obvious, although full term, she was tiny (4lb 3ozs) and because she was a Ceasarian birth she was unmarked and very beautiful. I don't know (or care) what caused it, whether it's an indication that there is a 'life' after death or just the random firing of electrons in the dying brain as scientists say, all I know is that it was an enjoyable experience and that I've never feared death. (I fear the pain of illness before dying though)
