What's The Dress Code That God Wants?

that's true but have you ever wondered why there is a dress code. can you imagine a women coming in for a Sunday service with a really short skirt on or a really low cut blouse... its distracting not only for men but for women. I feel people should be dress appropriately when they come to serve God its only respect. not saying you have to have on the best but just dress nicely

@ dorothyDauphinee: I completely agree with you. I told my mother that I was not a Chirstian. She about died. But, this is not to say that I do not believe in God, because I do and I ensure that I teach my kids moral values. I never understood why people believe that they have to perform certain rites or go get Baptised by a person to become "saved". My opinion is that salvation is already in our hearts.

My boyfriend and I laugh about Baptism to oursleves sometimes. If being "saved" was just about getting holy water tossed on you with a blessing recited then we could go around with squirt guns of Holy Water and save the world....LOL

I mean, Pastors, Ministers, and Priests are people too. They make mistakes, they are imperfect - just like the rest of the world. Now, if Jesus himself showed up and was doing Baptisms, that would be another story...I'd get in line:)

@ AcousticSoul: I think that people should be allowed to worship any way they want, just like you want to be able to worship how you want. Just because you wouldn't go to church half naked (of course I wouldn't either as I don't go anywhere like that)it doesn't mean that others shouldn't be allowed. Of course, I mean within the rules of a the law. Being actually naked in public isn't allowed.

But, if a woman decided to wear pants and a man in the church couldn't keep his eyes off her butt - then that is HIS problem and something that he needs to reflect on. That's not a far leap from stating that a woman raped shouldn't have worn such a short skirt. It's stating that women are responsible for the actions of others. Making sure that you dress a certain way in order to help make sure that the man doesn't act out of line.

I'm not trying to be mean....honestly I'm not. I think that if people are in church for the right reasons then what someone is wearing aroudn them wouldn't matter.

When God made Eve, did he slap an ankle length dress on her? Nope. I can understand people thinking that "modesty" is the key. I'm not trying to disrespect but, isn't what is deemed appropiate and not appropiate is just something that people make up?

Does God hate the women in countries that walk around topless? That's their culture. That's what they do. that's who they are and God created them. We don't do that in America. We, as a society think that it's wrong.

God has differnt concerns for people. I think that God could care less about whether or not a woman is wearing pants to church. God cares about what is in the heart...what the person's soul is all about. Clothes are just that- clothes. when we die, the clothes remain here.

The concerns that people have while alive on earth mean absolutely NOTHING to those who have passed on. The trival stuff of "who wore what to church" or "who is friends with who" does not matter in the bigger picture. It is just stuff that imperfect humans obese over in order to feel as though they are in control...when they aren't.

You made a good point. There are people stepping in "lay down the rules"...but where did they get these rules from? Like you said, God hasn't said much about what we are doing these days....so in my opinion, these "rules" are just someone's opinion that they want everyone else to follow.

I think I said enough at your above comment. I just wanted to mention that I don't look down upon you for your beliefs or the way your church likes to run things. I just don't think that others should be looked down upon because they don't believe the way you do.

Like you said, you don't like people disrespecting your beliefs. But what if a person doesn't believe in the dress code or doesn't understand your dress code and showed up one day to church? Not you personally - but think of the others in your church? Would they welcome that person open arms? Or would they talk about it or give dirty looks? Isn't that doing the thing you hate? Putting someone else down because of their beliefs?
