What kind of mushrooms could these have been.

I thought I knew what they were when you said they were thick mushrooms as I would take a guess at them being Portobello mushrooms as these are large and thick. But then I wondered when you said almost meaty you meant the taste in which case I would say they were most likely shiitake as these are reasonably think and meaty.

never knew that mushrooms did have classes.well maybe my younger twin brother can know what type they are..for they grow alot in the country mostly brown ones&dark brown too.they are meaty&fleshy too&he knows how to cook that they taste like fried chicken!
