Do you have bags?

We get taxed so much that I don't think we should be taxed anymore but for the store to give you a refund for using your own bags is a good idea. There was a warning about using bags over and over. You need to wash them out after every use if it is cloth. I imagine the plastic ones you had meat in should just be recycled.

I know when I'm at Walmart we are feeding a family of 6 so therefore we don't have enough reusable bags to use so we end up getting the plastic bags but we do reuse them at home so they are getting use. Like for our smaller trash cans etc. So I don't feel AS BAD about it - but if we are only picking up a few small items I have some to use.

And then at the store I'm working at - we have this customer appreciation card where you get a stamp for every $10 you spend and so when its filled (20 stamps) you get 20% off. In order to help our store save money on bags (they are expensive) and go green we're offering a stamp for not using a bag and I think on a daily basis for every 5-8 customers that go without a bag there is maybe one that refuses and says they need one anyways.

But I completely think that every store should start charging for bags. I know here Bottom Dollar charges you 5 cents for using one and I think if everyone did, not only would it help support the costs for the company to supply them but I think more people would be likely to go green.

Now offering money off - its an incentive but I think it should only be used at first and finally after a few months stop when people really get the hang of it and it catches on.

I am totally with you on this as plastic bags remain just plastic bags. I do have strong cloth bags - this renminded me so much of the shopping bags used as a child int he U.K. I try to keep in car but to be honest sometimes forget them. If I have done a large shop then I ask for a box to pack my stuff in. I am trying and refuse little plastic bags for one purchase. We all have to cut down and try to save the planet. If we each helped in this way - just a littel - such a bog difference could be made. I don't get discounts by the way. Wish that I did.

We don't have a tax on bags here in OH nor a credit for using your own, that I know of. I'm using my own because it's the right thing to do and honestly, I think they hold more than what the stores give you anyway.

When Aldi's opened here last year I bought a handful of their paper bags and have been re-using them until they're dead. I don't think I've purchased any more other than that first batch, so they last a good long while if you're careful. I just unload the groceries, fold the bags and put them by the door to put in the trunk my next time going out.

I also bring a cooler with me and put all the cold stuff directly into the cooler rather than into bags. I got a nice large tote last week while in NH (from the funeral home, no less). I brought it to Aldi's with me the other day and with that and the cooler, I had plenty of room for what I bought.

Walgreen's also has their green totes on sale this week for 3/$1. I bought 3 yesterday and had her put my other purchases in one of them, then I went to WalMart and brought them in with me and was able to get everything in those 3 bags, so I didn't use any other bags from a store yesterday at all. Works for me!

I have been using Walmart's reusable bags for over 9 months, I keep them in a big canvas bag that I hang in plain sight so I will not forget it.

re-usable bags& plastic bags are just a hot cake in my country's garbage sector..its a big business industry as it pays much to those who collect those pieces of bags for recycling for many families now depend on selling them back for recycling..

I try to remember to bring my re-usable bags when I go shopping but I do sometimes forget. There is only one grocery store here that charges a fee to use their plastic bags. It's like 5 cents per bag. But I still see people buying their plastic bags. It would be neat if the grocery store gave me a discount if I used the re-usable bags.

Wow, I never heard of a bag tax! I'm in Pennsylvania, and that news never got out here yet. Well, if they're gonna tax me if I don't bring in reusable bags, I WILL bring in reusable bags...and getting a 50 center credit for each bag is also a great incentive. It would be hard for me to get used to, but, like I said, we don't have that around here yet. Guess we have to do all we can for the environment!! TAke care!

I have a few of them myself and yes I forget to being them with me. I need to remember to bring them with me to the wholesale stores. There is the place where you don't get any bag at all. we also don't get taxed for our bags here as of yet.

I dont' like the idea of a bag tax but I do like the idea of a credit for bringing in a bag.
I don't use the reusable bags too often I usually use my old plastic bags til they cannot be used anyfurther.
