Is There Anybody Out There Who Can Identify An Orb? email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 97/100. Darkwing (7519)   ranked 2 out of 1,222 in paranormal5 months ago

I ask this because I visited Bodiam Castle, in East Sussex, a couple of weeks ago, and whilst I was there, I took quite a few photos. I hadn't noticed anything previously, whilst either shooting or uploading the pics, but tonight, I posted them to my social networking site, and was quite surprised to see three orbs, in the same turret of the castle, but in different places.

I've zoomed into the photo attached to this discussion and the suspected orb has a light ring around a circle of light, with a shadow in the middle. I would like more opinions on this please, as at first, I thought it might be a spot from my camera, but taking into consideration the height of the object, then that's almost out of the question. Does anybody here take an interest in, or study orbs? If so, I would be really interested in hearing your views on this picture.

Unfortunately, I can only post one picture in the discussion but if anybody wishes to see the others, I'll post them in your response area... just ask. Bodiam Castle has a bit of history attached to it. It was built up in the 12th century, but there was a building equivalent to one turret there from Anglo Saxon times, stated to be the 5th-6th century. In the 12th century, a knight married the landowner's daughter and thus became the Lord of Bodiam Manor. This particular turret where the suspected orbs are, is at the southeast corner of the castle.

That's about all the gen I can give you other than that the turret was divided into floors, and on each floor there was a room where servants slept. What do you think... could this be an orb? Please... I need opinions!:)

I am not an expert to be sure if this is a real orb or just something caught in the flash while the pitcure was being took...I have seen real orbs in my life up close though...I wish i could see the pitcure more clear...I do believe it looks real from what I can see about the pitcure...I do believe in the supernatural and it is possiable...

Did you click on the picture so you could see a bigger version? I thought it might be the camera at first, but it was quite light in there and the turrets around ninety to a hundred feet high. There's no way the flash would have reached that high, nor would it have given off that type of reflection. It beats me. I've seen orbs before... in fact, I have a few in my garden, but I wasn't altogether sure about this for some reason. However, as it's lurking so high up and it's a perfect circle, with a ring of light around it, I felt the need to ask others.

Thank you for your opinion... I believe it's real too. Brightest Blessings, my friend.

I'm not experienced in this kind of work or field, but I find the paranormal very interesting. Do you think I could see the other pictures? It just looks like a spot to me in that picture but maybe the other pictures would help me out, if you don't mind. I wasn't sure if you'd still want my opinion on it because it would just be a personal view.
That's very interesting though.

myLot reputation of 97/100. Darkwing (7519)   ranked 2 out of 1,222 in paranormal  5 months ago

Personal opinion is fine, my friend. That's what I'm looking for really. I have seen orbs before, but I didn't notice this one whilst taking the picture, nor the one in the pic attached here. Mind, I only looked up through the camera viewer so it could have emerged at just the right time. The previous one doesn't appear in this picture... or not in the same place. What you can see on the roof is a kind of mildew, from the damp.

Right, in this picture, you can see where the light is being cast from the windows and there's no way that light is being cast to the left underside of the window on the opposite wall to where I'm standing. Can you see the light there? It's not totally circular, and whereas the other one was ninety feet or so up, so this one is about seventy feet... way out of reach of my flash, which I don't think went off anyway in that instant. The previous one probably looks like "just a spot" because it's so far away, but if you wish, please save them to your documents/pictures, and view them on the zoom in your picture/fax viewer. You should get a better idea then.

Sure... I value your opinion, as I do anybody else's or I wouldn't have asked. Thank you for your contribution and Brightest Blessings.

Oh wow, that looks like a legitimate orb to me. You're right, there is no way that the light could reach all the way down there and the flash wouldn't be able to reach that far. Sweet, that's pretty awesome.

myLot reputation of 97/100. Darkwing (7519)   ranked 2 out of 1,222 in paranormal  5 months ago

Yes, and strange they were all in the same turret. One person who's responded here is an experienced ghost hunter and they reckon that the orbs might not be from past life at the castle, and that they could be spirit, such as spirit guides that follow me around. An interesting thought because I have had a few strange experiences with spirits and have seen several orbs, or at least, they've come out in photos.

I was pretty sure at least one was an orb, but wasn't sure about the other two, which looked more like bright blobs of light. However, taking into consideration the windows and position of the sun, I don't think they can be light refraction, so that only leaves me with the one conclusion.:) I'm quite proud to think I might have a light spirit travelling around with me!

I've seen these a lot on Ghost Hunters... these guys try to debunk, scientifically, stuff that people see. Sometimes they see orbs too in their videos... and usually they aren't anything paranormal, but sometimes they are. Since this is a castle it could be reflection of a dust particle, or it could be the real McCoy. I like to think some are real. I know I have seen an orb with my own eyes before when I was working in a nursing home. An orb 'flew' out of a wall and into the opposite wall in the hallway.... so I've seen an orb with my own eyes. I believe it was a spirit of a person who died there. I would like to think that you might have seen a real spirit orb.

myLot reputation of 97/100. Darkwing (7519)   ranked 2 out of 1,222 in paranormal  5 months ago

Yes, I've followed the subject quite a bit. In fact, there was a Ghost Hunters programme shot at Michelham Priory in Sussex, and there were definite orbs there, as well as figures. I also saw one on a friend's social networking site, which had a clear face in it, of a young, blonde girl watching her baby. I mentioned this, and she told me something I hadn't known previously... that her neighbour asked who the little blonde girl was whom she'd seen peering out of an upstairs window! Wow... spooky! I have spirit in my garden too... I've seen orbs out there a few times, but they don't worry me... I think they're friendly! lol Normally, you can feel their presence in some way or another, but these in the castle, I didn't feel. Yet I'm convinced almost, that they're orbs.

Thank you for your contribution my friend, and Brightest Blessings. Do look up Ghost Hunters at Michelham Priory on YouTube. Amazing!

Just for you, and this interesting discussion have I come back here.........
Anyway, yes, I do believe they are. Orbs are a well documented phenom.
Here's a link I found for you that will give you a lot of interesting info on them.

Check it out. It's really fascinating. Some parts stretch the imagination, but others are rather chilling in their content. Hugs my friend.....

Awwww... that's so sweet of you, my friend. It's great to see you here, as always!

I've posted a second pic in response number two if you wish to look at it. There's no way it's light cast through the windows because that's obvious and at a different angle, so I quite believe I've spotted something here. I've put a whole heap of pics in the Den as well, which are bigger and clearer if you'd like to take a look at those... feel free.

I have followed orbs for quite some time, as I developed an interest in them quite some time ago when I spotted some. Please read what I said in the previous response to yours, about the little blonde girl. She was so distinctive, and I was flabbergasted to hear that she'd been seen by others.

Thank you for the link my friend. I certainly will go and check that out and the more I can learn about orbs, the better, as they intrigue me! Brightest Blessings and thank you for gracing my discussion with your fine wisdom, my dear friend.

Wow... I see what you mean. I followed the link and a few of those photos were precisely what I've captured on my camera, with a ring of light around them and a similar shadow in the middle. Thank you for that... I also learned that where there was a battle in an ancient place, the orbs gathered in great numbers. Fascinating. I think I have a new hobby! There's just one problem and that is that the National Trust and any other owners of places of historical interest won't let you photograph inside. There's a Scribe's Room in Michelham Priory where a model monk sits at a desk and there's a large fireplace with logs in it, plus various chests and artifacts around the room. I saw an orb floating around the fireplace with my naked eye. It seemed to come down the chimney and hover in front of the opening for a while, then it moved away at speed, disappearing in thin air, almost as if the speed was so great that it couldn't be conceived by the naked eye.

myLot reputation of 82/100. sparkofinsanity (3446)   ranked 78 out of 1,222 in paranormal  5 months ago

LOL, always nice to find a new hobby.
Now I'll tell you my story. We have a town a few km's away that burned down quite a number of years back (part of Meg's story if you remember). Anyway, the only building left standing is the stone Church. It's very small, but very well built.
When I was researching the area for background on Meg's antecedents in the Church graveyard, I visited the site of the original town. It was late in the day but of course, I couldn't leave until I'd checked out the Church. I peered through the windows as the only door was barricaded, and it was like deep twilight inside. I couldn't see much really as the windows were blackened out for the most part, and I was just about to leave when I caught a flash of light out of the corner of my eye. I thought it was the hubs taking pics of the Church, but when I turned, he was no where to be seen. So I looked back in through the windows and suddenly there they were. groups of orbs of all sizes dotted about the Church. One at the front was moving back and forth more than the others. And I suddenly knew what I was looking at..................many of the people of the original town had gathered in the Church when the storm that destroyed the town caused the waters to start rising. The storm that was responsible for the town's flooding and the wooden buildings burning down (lightening strikes) had gone on for days and the safest, driest place was inside the Church. Those orbs I was seeing were the people of the town 're-enacting' down through time, their gathering there during the period that took their homes and businesses and the lives of some of their family members. The town I live in now, was built after the burning and most of the people who live here, have relatives that came from that town. I know that my research helped to fill in the blanks of understanding and give meaning to what I saw, but I also know, that even if I didn't have that research in my head, I would still have seen those orbs...........

myLot reputation of 97/100. Darkwing (7519)   ranked 2 out of 1,222 in paranormal  5 months ago

Wow... so they brought you the story of the old town's demise... amazing. I was quite interested to read on that site, that they sometimes bring you the future as well, which would explain premonitions, I guess. I hadn't really thought about them bringing stories before but somebody showed me a photo a while ago and asked me if I could see a young soldier in the orb. He was dark haired, with a moustache, and I could certainly see him. He probably brought a story from the past too, whereas I just thought they were spirit, hanging on in where they had known in their waking life.

I'm certainly going to look more deeply into orbs from now on! Thank you for your story, my friend.

Isn't it just, Zed? The plain, white coloured ones are quite similar to the one in this, particular picture. I have seen orbs before and I was pretty certain this was the real thing, but I needed opinions, and it seems that the general consensus is that I was right. Amazing... I didn't notice it until I put all the pictures in an album on my website.

Way cool Darkwing!
I love that you caught them so well...and yes I definitely think that they are the real deal. I've read a lot on the paranormal and with the angle of the picture it does look like they aren't just dust or light refraction.
You should send them to an expert in the field of this sort to see what they think....do you have a story on this particular castle and does it have a particular ghost or something interesting to share? We'd all love to hear it!

myLot reputation of 97/100. Darkwing (7519)   ranked 2 out of 1,222 in paranormal  5 months ago

Thank you my friend. I feel they're the real deal too as the light is cast elsewhere through the windows. I didn't see them before I pointed the camera up, and to be honest, didn't notice anything at all with the naked eye. It was just when I posted the pics to the Den, I spotted them because the pics come up quite large in there... normal size.

All I know about the castle is what was written on the visitors' sheets and what I watched on the video that they were showing inside the castle. There was no mention of any ghost but when I've finished this, I'll scout around and see if I can come up with any information. All I can tell you is that the castle was never attacked, either during the Norman Invasion, or at any other time. So, knights wouldn't have died fighting for the castle, but there were a lot of people residing within the building, including knights, servants, etc, so there's a good possibility that it was either an entity from those times, or indeed from the prior Saxon habitation.

If I can find anything out, then I'll certainly let you know, and I know somebody personally, if I can find her these days, who knows a lot about orbs and the paranormal. Brightest Blessings and thank you for your contribution, my friend.

myLot reputation of 97/100. Darkwing (7519)   ranked 2 out of 1,222 in paranormal  5 months ago

Ha ha ha! Now, why might you have asked me about the Castle being haunted? Tis fate, my friend... I believe I was meant to find this out! lol.

I found an excerpt from a book called Haunted Castles of Britain and Ireland, by Richard Jones. He states in the book that passers by in the dead of night have reported hearing "the distinctive sound of spectral revels emanating from the hollow shell." Some have heard "strange oaths" and "foreign-sounding songs" coming from the interior, and there's a shadow of a ghostly lady in red, seen looking out from one of the towers at times, with her eyes seemingly fixed on a distant object, which nobody else can see. Then, there was a little boy's spirit, dressed in Dickensian style clothing seen running across the footbridge. Halfway across, he vanished, triggering tales that he may have fallen into the moat and drowned.

The castle was also used for several different film scenes, like Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Robin Hood and Herne the Hunter, Dr. Who, and a Lancelot film. The band, Saxon, also recorded one of their musical videos there, so it's a very popular place. I haven't covered all the films and TV series, but there are quite a few!

If you wish to look it up, I found it in Wikipedia, under Bodiam Castle Hauntings. Now I'm more than convinced they're orbs! He he he.

I knew it! I love old castles don't you.....even though I've never been I think I'd feel right at home!
I will go to look this up later today....my hubby has to work so I'm working on helping clients today and cleaning is all....
Thanks for the info! It's terribly interesting!

myLot reputation of 97/100. Darkwing (7519)   ranked 2 out of 1,222 in paranormal  5 months ago

Yes, I do love old castles and each has a different feel, or "atmosphere" to it. For instance, there's one in Scotland... I forget which now... where the ghost of a piper can be seen on the ramparts, playing his bagpipes. All very intriguing, my friend. I need to go to Tintagel, in far Cornwall, and maybe even the Scilly Isles. I feel the need... the pull... to go. Perhaps I'm being guided there, who knows, but I know I have to go there whilst I still can. There's one person who's responded in here, who's an experienced ghost hunter. They... I think it's a she... said that orbs are not always spirits from past lives in the old buildings but can sometimes be a spirit, such as a spirit guide, which follows one around. What a lovely thought. I have had some strange experiences with the spirit world, and also, often captured orbs on pics, besides physically seeing a few. So, they could be right, and I'm even more intrigued now! lol.

I might put a discussion out on Bodiam's hauntings, and I might revive an old story about a little bridesmaid at a wedding. After two years, I still can't get that event off my mind. I need to go back to the cemetery and take some more pics I think, but it was a "strange" day, to say the least. Maiden, Mother, Crone came to mind, and were mentioned by another friend. It's like, one of those things I really need to get to the bottom of! It seems I have a bit of travelling to do, my friend! lol.

I've heard orbs are spots of moisture, dust etc - but I think one good one alone is something more. So, lots of floating "orbs" might be dust, but ...
I've yet to capture an orb in a digital camera, no matter how dusty it is! My daughter has caught one - above the steeple of an old church. Look closely, and there's a definite face there. That was paranormal and I'm sure yours is too.
Besides, spirits are energy, right? So why wouldn't they draw dust particles together, or cause a digital effect that mimics natural phenomena, in an effort to make us see them? Much easier than becoming a white lady!cry

myLot reputation of 97/100. Darkwing (7519)   ranked 2 out of 1,222 in paranormal  5 months ago

I believe that's probably exactly what they do, my friend. They use their energies in one, confined area, and the dust, rather than being drawn by them, is pulled by the energy or power around the orbs, much like a static reaction.

I believe the orb your daughter saw above the church may well have been from the cemetery, or moving between the bell tower and cemetery. That would make a lot of sense, and I believe these too, are probably trapped within the castle for whatever reason. I can't see a face in the circle because it's a bit far off... I have seen faces in other orbs, but this appears to have a shadow in the centre which I will have to put on my Fax/Pic viewer and zoom in to see better, I think.

Hornswaggled tempted me into checking whether the castle was haunted. There was nothing to say so in the information sheet, but I checked it out and sure enough... So, you see, there's no earthly reason why that and the others shouldn't be true orbs. I'm pretty much convinced now, but I'm loving hearing the different opinions of Mylotters who are looking in to this discussion. Orbs intrigue me, and I love to hear stories about them.

Brightest Blessings and thank you for your contribution, my friend.

7. myLot reputation of 75/100. heathcliff (791)   ranked 11 out of 1,222 in paranormal   5 months ago

You've got multiple light sources here and one of them is striking a light reflection onto the lens. It is circular, immobile and transparent, occurring in a perfect angle to be reflection from the left-most window light source: All indicative of a lens effect. (Whether it is indirect light striking the lens, a dust particle or water vapor reflection is immaterial.)

Too many so-called "experts" are trying to make everyone think any orb is significant, but very few are anything unusual. This, of course, isn't going to make me very popular!

myLot reputation of 82/100. sparkofinsanity (3446)   ranked 78 out of 1,222 in paranormal  5 months ago

Sorry heathcliff, but as a photographer, if what you said was accurate then the 'light spot' would be in the foreground of the picture, not in the background.
All light spots that appear on pics caused by the reasons you give, (unless the pic is taken with a very very sophisticated lens/filter system, appear in the foreground and seem to almost overlay the picture, unlike Darkwing's picture where the 'orb' is actually a part of the composition of the picture. Do you see what I mean?

myLot reputation of 97/100. Darkwing (7519)   ranked 2 out of 1,222 in paranormal  5 months ago

Heathcliff, I respect your opinion on this and it shouldn't make you unpopular at all. Indeed, it's a useful piece of information, but in my experience, Sparks is correct in what she says, and light refraction often shows up as lines rather than circles. Besides, this is not evident in just one picture, and how come it doesn't happen in other areas where the light is pouring through the windows? Also, the "orb" is far too high to be a light refraction. It's some ninety feet above where I'm standing, at minimum, and no light is coming through at the angle you mention, onto the camera. Believe me, I thought about all that before starting the discussion, but thank you for pointing it out, as it adds value to our thoughts and the discussion.

Brightest Blessings, my friend.

HOw about sending a note or the pictures to Ghost Hunters.....I myself have never had an orb show up in a picture...so I can't help

myLot reputation of 97/100. Darkwing (7519)   ranked 2 out of 1,222 in paranormal  5 months ago

It isn't the first time I've captured orbs my friend. There are some in my garden pics, on a dull, snowy morning, in March, where there's no light refraction whatsoever, and I know they're orbs. They come into the house at times, and I see them moving about, but when they move, they move so fast that you only see them for a split second before they've gone. I feel this is what happened here. I didn't see it when I was looking at the picture on the camera screen... only when I uploaded the pics onto my site.

I will send the pics to Ghost Hunters... that's a good idea and I'll come back and let you know what their solution was. Brightest Blessings and thank you for your contribution.

Do you really think they are real? That is something that I have contemplated for a while now...

myLot reputation of 97/100. Darkwing (7519)   ranked 2 out of 1,222 in paranormal  5 months ago

Yes, I do think they're real my friend. I've seen them before, some with very plain faces in them. In one of my earlier responses, I was given a link to check out, which might be interesting to you if you've been contemplating orbs for some while. I can't tell you they're real... you have to make up your own mind whether you believe they're real or not. Suffice to say, I have researched on the hauntings at Bodiam Castle, and that almost affirms that these are orbs, for real.

Anyway... here's the link my friend, SparkofInsanity offered up. The rest is up to you, my friend. http://www.psychicinvesti... .

Yes, I have too, my friend, and I was pretty sure this was one. The other two or three, I'm not entirely sure about but this one stood out to me. I just wanted to affirm that it wasn't my imagination and to draw others' opinions about it. It's hard work for me to get to these places, because they're a way to walk before you even get inside, and I suffer with knee problems. However, there are usually benches scattered around where I can take a rest, and indeed, there were a few inside the castle where you can sit and wander back in your mind to the days when the place was inhabited. I wasn't headed there that day. I went to Scotney Castle, which is very few miles north of Bodiam, but it was a Tuesday, and the place was closed. So, my sister and I headed on down to Bodiam. A strange turn of events, indeed! lol.

You're welcome to the sharing and thank you for your contribution, my friend. If you'd like to see all the pics of the castle, I've uploaded them into the Den. Feel free to browse through them. Brightest Blessings.
