What do you do to keep from running out of cooking ingredients |
|
Okay, I am in my kitchen today cooking, and I wanted to do some baking. Well, I check my cupboard, and one the main ingredients flour is not enough to do my baking. I don't want to go to the store to purchase flour today so I have to put the baking off for another day. I am writing this because I have the toughest time being organize. What is your strategy? What do you do avoid running out of essential cooking ingredients or do you ever run out of ingredients?

5. bdugas (2422) | 5 months ago | Baking is one of the things I love in life, and I hate it when I go to the cabinet and what I need is not there. Sometimes I just say well it will have to wait till tomorrow when I go to the store. Or if it is something I really want I will make that trip to get it. I don't usually run out of any ingredient. I buy when it is on sale even if I already have one, cheaper that way and it is there when I need it. My cabinets is full of spices and flour and sugar, just in case I find a recipe that I want to try. Sometimes I will find something that I never used before and I will buy it and then google it on the internet to see what it is used for and what recipes I can make with it. When hubby cooks, I hear him in there going through the bottles of spices looking for the one he needs and I can hear him, we need to get rid of all this cra*p that no one uses, lol, but the way I feel is when you see a recipe on the internet and it calls for a certain spice or ingredient, either you have it or you don't so if when you see it on sale then you get it and no problem when you go to back something.

The rule in the house is that if you just used the last one or drank the last cup or ate all of it, you write down what it is you just finished on the shopping list on the fridge. You can find those magnetic shopping lists at the dollar store...I have tons of them for this exact purpose. I also have a menu list on the fridge...it lists the meals that are planned for the week(s). My boyfriend then knows what I need to have in the fridge so that I can cook - that means those ingredients are hands off. So far this has been working well.

7. carolbee (6620) | 5 months ago | What works well for me, when I bake or cook which is rare anymore, is to decide on what I want to bake in advance. I check the pantry to see if I do have the ingredients before even thinking about an item to bake. Not there, I either make a list, shop later or stop everything and go to the store. I never start a project unless I am certain the ingredients are at the house. I could ask a neighbor but would prefer not to.
