I bought a box of button mushrooms today to add to salad tonight, I won't use them all and want to find a way to prevent them being discoloured and slimy by tomorrow as has been the case the last few times i have bought them. Please bear in mind that the tempreture today was 35 degrees celcious and last time the fridge didn't help to keep them fresh. Anyone any tips?

I do remember reading somewhere that you can freeze mushrooms by placing them individualy on trays in the freezer so that they do not touch and once frozen bag them up together. Doing this the mushrooms should last for around a month. But I have never tried this so do not know how successful doing this would be or what they would be like once defrosted.
The way I tend to keep mushrooms is in a brown paper bag in one of the draws at the base of the fridge. Doing this they tend to last about 3 days before they start to turn. I usually find that when they are kept in a plastic tray like you get in a supermarket they start to turn a lot quicker.
A mushroom walks into a bar, sits down and orders a drink. The bartender says "we don't serve mushrooms here."
The mushroom says "Why? I'm a fun guy."
