I think you should be doing the job that you like and not just the job that you must to do. I knew some people who does not stay in a company because of the lack of interest that he has on his current job which is pretty far from his interests.

I think for a person to be happy and contented, he should be able to do what he likes.

Mom, That is a question that has bothered folks for a long time and I can see both sides of the issue. I have worked at jobs that I did not "love" some that I did not even like but I worked until I found something that I did like. I think that is the key and may have been what your neighbor was thinking when he/she made their response to you.

A person will be more productive working in a job that they enjoy but unless they are just plain lazy they will work in jobs they don't like until one comes along that they enjoy.

I think that you should definately do something that you love. Look at volunteer work the physical pay is crappy but personal self worth is increased. If you hate the job that your doing your quality of work will not be as good as say someone who loves there job, and you might not make the extra effort. When you hate your job you dread going to work the customers can tell it

Im unemployed in a moment, my only job now is looking aftr my son, and i really love it. Seeing your son growing up and spending all the time with him.
Maybe one day when i get a job, i want the job that i love, that's why i hardly find a job coz i hardly find a job that i really love.
My hubby when i asked him if he love his job, he said "NO", but he needs to work coz he have to to keep us going.

I think you should have a job you love but as many others have said most are working jobs because they have to not because they love it.

I think that people can sometimes think more of the money then any other reason. Maybe that's what this neighbor was thinking more of. Who can blame him in an unstable economy? However, I have to say that I agree with you more. Having fun whilst making money can make a world of difference, and you can always build up through the ranks and make more money through promotions, offering assistance outside of work, etc.

Hello Momtrying. Work is a very big part of life for almost all of us. It impacts how we feel and behave, so why would anyone deliberately choose any job they did not love? Sometimes, we have to do work we don't especially enjoy to earn money to live on until we are able to pursue the work we truly want to do. But absolutely, we should do something we love.

I love to do anything crafty. I would love to work in a craft store, or perhaps a fabric store. That would be my ideal job.

I believe in order to be happy and successful you have to enjoy what you do for a living, but sometimes we are put in positions where we have to do whatever is available. I know alot of people are losing there jobs and I am sure some of them were working at what they considered their dream job, but now they are having to seek employment wherever it is available. That is a hard pill to swallow for some I am sure, but we have to do what we have to do. I most definitely prefer to go to my job that I enjoy but I would go back to being a cashier if it meant food on the table and a roof over my head. I would probably be a cashier period if it paid as well as what I am doing now. I love being around people and right now I sit in an office by myself most of the time. I am thankful for my job and I work with alot of really great people but sometimes it is very lonely and quiet. I will stay here until God moves me since He is the one that put me here. I feel that is you can make a living from doing something you love and still love even when it is critical to your financial well being, then you are a very fortunate person and it is something which I strive towards on a daily basis.

But I can also see a flip side to the arguement as I know of people who have gone about making a living from something they loved only to lose all enjoyment from doing it because it was so critical to their financial well being.
