I'm rather fond of sin so why should anyone be as miserable as....? A little louche living is quite delightful. What is your interpretation of the phrase?

Hi p1key, It all depends on what kind of sin, if its a little innocent one, thts ok but if someone does something really bad, then that person feels guilty and will become miserable because he commited a sin, well thats my opinon lol! hugs, Tamara xxxx

It means to live disreputably LoLo. I am sure that you are far too nice a girl to do that. It's just folk like me that do that kind of thing! XXXX

Actually as had never heard this phrase before. Miserable as h-ell but not as sin. It seems those who are doing the sins are the ones who have the most fun at times...I have no interpretation on the phrase really seems to be one of those times that enjoy it now, pay for it later type of thing..like eating something hot and spicy..it is gonna bite you on your butt later..lol

Personally I'd rather be mad as a hatter, but each to their own. I've always held this perverse attraction to millinery and I feel somewhat cleansed in sharing that with you today. As for being miserable as sin, it was probably a stepping stone from "queer as a nine bob note" and came into play when society wowsers coined the phrase to describe people that they ostracised because of their supposedly debauched and hedonistic lifestyles! Little did they know Mr Pike, little did they know.

To coin a phrase "if you want to get ahead; get a hat"! I can see where I have gone wrong. I confez that I am bowlered over by the thought of you being the very model of a modern millinery gentleman James. Indeed if I could find a chapeau to fit my hedonistic lifestyle I truly would be off on my beretta!

it's one of those silly sayings like don't talk wet i never understood that how can talking be wet? the sin stuff (excluding murder and whatnot) is usually the best bits so i don't get it either, maybe someone could explain. I always just presumed that (being a sunday school kid)sin meant you went to hell and that ment miserable for eternity hence miserable as those who've sinned????? as you can tell i never really thought that much about it until just now lol

I think that's not a bad explanation Mands. Not just a pretty face eh?

'Miserable as sin', I think, has always referred to the other person. No one refers to themselves that way, do they? So, in view of that, it's more sour grapes for not being included in the fun at the time.

My interpretation is that it is not a very good saying as I am very much like you P1key, I am rather fond of sin myself! NOT as I have or will sin(ed) in my life as I am as pure as the driven snow BUT If I Did sin, I am sure that I would enjoy it tremendously!! Now that you mention sayings...I wonder what your interpretation of "as pure as the driven snow" is!!!

Driven snow in my experience tends to end up as slush, all black and yukky GEL. I can't imagine you as a sinner. Living in a convent as you do!

I agree with you P1key about driven snow being all black, slushy and yucky and for the life of me I can not see why or how anyone could consider it pure!! You are right about living in a convent also, that means the I am 100% free from sin so I suppose that means that I can cast the first stone doesn't it?
