If you go some where to stay over night, does the light or the noises bother you

When my husband and I go some where to stay over night, I can't sleep if there is any lights on. Street lights are the worst and I have to make sure that the curtains are pulled at tight as possible. My husband has to have it as quiet as possible and the light doesn't bother him. When we turn on the air conditioner or heat and if it stops and starts all night, he hates it and can't sleep. How about you? Which one bothers you most?

On the whole, I can sleep pretty much anywhere-- which, I suppose, is a blessing... since I hear a LOT of people complain about noise and light keeping them up. Things that HAVE bothered me-- a hotel in the city where there was a neon sign across the street that would blink in red, ON and OFF, all night long. The same with a different hotel where my room was immediately above an intersection... the noise bothered me less than the eternal change of the traffic lights: green-yellow-red-green, over and over and OVER, all night long. A constant light-- like a street light, or light from the hallway-- doesn't bother me so much as flickering/changing lights. The same is true with noises... a constant noise doesn't bother me, but something like the lid of a dumpster in an alley, slamming shut, makes me come wide awake.

with me, it doesnt really matter where i am if im with my hubby. i always comfy next to him. but if hes not with me i dont like staying in unfamiliar places. i get really anxious and scared. im not sure why, i just dont like being wierd places by myself. like even a friends house, if im with my husband im okay cuz i know if anything happens hes there, but if im alone i feel like something could happen and nobody could help. its wierd.

None of that bothers me at all. Where we live it is pretty noisy. We live in a small town, but our house is right on main st. so the street lights shine in the window. Plus right behind the houses across the street is the train tracks. So they are pretty loud. But I have been living very close to the trains for over 20 years. I am so used to them that even when I'm awake sometimes I won't notice that a train is going by.

My home is in a quiet locally. When I travel I try to stay in places that are away from lots of noise. I read in my travel guide book about the accommodation and it tells me if the place to stay is on a busy road or in a night life area. When I went to St Lucia the air conditioning was as loud as a grass mower. I heard busy traffic in a youth hostel dorm in San Diego. In Sumatra I stayed near a mosque and that sounds began early. In Finland in the summer it is light almost all night. I got used to going to sleep in daylight. I only saw darkness twice that summer.

well, it really depends. If i am really tired, none of this will bother me, i will go straight to me bed, fall asleep right there. But if i am not that tired, i think the lights will bother me, i will do the same thing that you did, close the curtain, shut the window, just avoid any lights to come in to the room.

Both the noise and the light bother me very much. It seems like my hubby and I always get the noisy, rattle trap air conditioners in the hotels. I like it dark too, or I can't sleep. My hubby actually ordered some earplugs for me through Sportmen's Guide, and they work great for noisy places. They are soft and foamy. So that is half the battle. Great discussion topic!
