I Have Been Seduced By a Tennessee Accent!

As most of you know, I took a little road trip to Alberta to meet up with one of our very own mylotters. And I gotta tell you folks, the magic of the lot transcends the clicks of your keyboards and the edges of your computer screens! My favorite "moonbeam', my nickname for her, (moon dancer to you lotters), and her hubs had arrived at the Hotel before us. We first met the hubs in the lobby and all went outside for a cigarette as our room wasn't ready yet and we couldn't check in for awhile. The three of us were standing just outside the doors talking when I looked up because the doors were opening, and my heart literally stopped! There she was, my favorite moonbeam in the flesh! Even before her hubs 'introduced' her, I knew it was her. I'm surprised I didn't knock her over or smother her in the big Canadian bear hug I gave her! lol I couldn't let go until I gotten the tears in my eyes under control! I mean really, what kind of impression would I have made if your first view of me had been a tired old broad crying like a baby?! LOL It was still early enough for breakfast and we made our way to the Hotel's restaurant. I can't remember what we first talked about. All I know is that I was in the presence of a real southern lady and gentleman. So soft spoken, so polite and well mannered and music to listen to! I'm sure I must have come across as a little loud and excitable, but I was just so instantly comfortable with these two people I'd just met, but felt as if they'd been a part of of my life and memories forever. I knew that my moonbeam hadn't been feeling well, and I myself was tired and in pain from the long drive. But no one complained about being tired or hurting. Those feelings paled in comparison to the sheer pleasure of looking into the loving face of a friend well met. They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. They are wrong. It is in the heart of the beholder. All I saw in these two people, was the beauty of love, of laughter, of warmth and of real friendship. Such a gift! We spent the day walking up and down historic Whyte Avenue in Edmonton, as they had an "Art Walk" in progress, which meant that a lot of Edmonton artists had their paintings on display for exposure and sale. Moonbeam and I had such a good time walking and talking and even at times making a little fun of some of what we saw, as I gotta tell ya, there's NOT a lot of artistic talent in Edmonton! LOL Our husbands brought up the rear, talking among themselves and carrying our purchases.........well they did when my own husband wasn't disappearing from time to time in the crowd! LOL We lost him at one point completely, but he found us and took us over to see a paraplegic artist who painted with her mouth. The hubs and I were asked by her manager to pose with her while she painted for pictures for their public relations/press packets. I believe my moonbeam has pics of us doing that..... The weather was perfect for walking, and I have to hand it to the men for indulging us, as neither one of them are happy in crowds and around a lot of noise. We had lunch in another part of the Hotel's restaurant, but had to beat an early retreat as they were closing it up for an afternoon wedding party. We all rested for awhile and then met up in the Hotel Hospitality suite for a wine and cheese tasting experience. I have discovered that there IS a red wine that I can drink! LOL From there we went on to an Irish Pub for dinner where they served a Duid Stew over mashed potatoes made with Guiness Beer, which on top of the wine I'd had, had my sparks crackling big time! LOL We took another walk along Whyte Avenue after dinner, as the artists were gone for the night and I wanted to share my favorite bookstore with my moonbeam. It was such a pleasure to find that we share the same taste in books too! And of course, we lost my husband AGAIN, but found him at the Hotel later. He's worse than a two year old, I swear! Take your eyes off him for a second, and he's gone! LOL We turned in early and met up in the morning for an early breakfast as we all had a long drive ahead of us that day to get 'home'. Thinking back over our time together, I'm sure that I left my Tennessee moonbeam with the impression that Canadians have WAAAAY too much energy in their speech and movements! LOL But my heart was beating out of my chest the whole time, and I could hardly contain myself with all I wanted to convey to this wonderful woman who had come to mean so much to me in such a short time on the lot. The hubs and I talked non stop about the visit on the drive home, and now he has a new phrase when he wants me to 'slow down' and just relax a bit..... He says "Use your Tennessee voice!" ROFL And he's right. It makes me slow down..... Listening to moonbeam or her husband talk is like listening to good poetry. I'm so glad that my husband and hers had so much in common and enjoyed each other's company. My hubs is so looking forward to taking a trip to Tennessee to visit with them again. WHAT a compliment! This from a man who really is NOT a people person! lol So I have been seduced by a Tennessee accent, though I'll never master it myself. lol To all you mylotters, who don't believe in magic, or the friendships that can be formed here, I am telling you now..........magic exists. It exists in the connections you make here that add to the joy of your life and the meaning of love. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it! So how was YOUR weekend?

Just about anyone speaks faster than someone from the South LOL When I lived in Kentucky everyone I talked to told me to slow down But, I'm happy you had such a great time The weekend was fun, spent chasing trolls around the lot and messing with their heads.

They may speak slower, but they can move just as quick! LOL It was great visit and I'm so looking forward to doing it again. And I see that the trolls were busy over the weekend, so I'm pleased you had someone to play with, seeing as how you couldn't play with me! ROFL

Hi Sparks! I'm glad you had such a wonderful weekend, it sounds like you had a blast! It had to be so exiting to meet someone from mylot and talk to them face to face instead of on the phone and per e-mail. I hope you get to do it again soon! I can't wait to see the pictures. Stew made with Guiness, huh? Sounds like something I could sink my teeth into lol. Well, my weekend was "interesting' to say the least LOL.

LOL I GOTTA make a trip to New York and stop off and get you two together before I meet up with OceanTiara in the Big Apple! Just seeing all the 'hellions' together in one place would be worth it. Good thing my 'hellions' are all grown up and wouldn't add to the mix. lol You moms wouldn't have a chance to be shy around each other! LOL

Let me know when I can take the kids and go up Route 9 and come see you, and then we can share our joyful story with Sparks! I can see it now... "...A Jeep pulls up to my house and a tired looking woman gets out and releases her little hellions from the restraints of the car seats, the two immediately go into my garden and start eating my tomatoes still on the vine and the baby chases my cat! We wrangle up the kids and go to Mills Norrie Point State Park and take in the river museum display there and Mare shows me where her classroom was while the kids harass the turtles and admire the fishies and think about hijacking one of the boats docked there. Then the kids start screaming for no apparent reason and to shut them up we pack them back into the car and go home to eat barbecue, and Mare shows my neighbors that she is exactly as bad in real life as she is online and they tremble in fear and promise to never annoy me again..."

Sparks, that is a most beautiful story and experience. I'm so very glad that you chose to share it with all of us! Concerning that "Tennessee accent", I know all about it, first-hand, myself. When my son got into some legal trouble after moving to Tennessee in 2000, I went there to bail him out. (He was innocent of the charges. I knew this because I knew him. And, yes, the charges were dropped.) When I got to Tennessee, I was met by a friend of my son's, someone you'd think, at first glance, was a true fireball because of her bright red hair and the fact that she just kind of scooped me and my other son up and treated us like family from the moment we met. She said one thing that I doubt I'll ever forget, no matter how long I live, unless my memory completely goes bye-bye one of these days. What she said was in response to my saying that I adored her accent. She said, "We're lazy speakers." She said that with that slow, easy-going southern drawl that only true southerns can master. It so surprised me to hear her say that, I must've laughed harder than I ever had before. I liked her immediately, just like a close friend I had known for years. This was down in southern Tennessee, almost in Alabama. As a matter of fact, the bus we took to Tennessee and back stopped in Alabama, which was the closest bus terminal to where we had to go. It was such a tiny little town! Your story brought that memory rushing back and I thank you for it. Even though seeing my son in the black and white striped outfit with chains around his hands and feet is not a memory I wish to keep in the forefront, the memory of that small town and the warm, friendly people is one I'll always cherish. Hey! Maybe I could meet up with Moon Dancer in August! My hubby and I are supposed to go to Tennessee (somewhere, not quite sure exactly where yet) in August because, even though my hubby's ex-step-daughter, the one he raised since she was 5 years old, got married in a civil ceremony, they're having a wedding next month in Tennessee, because that is where her husband family is from. I'm not looking forward to that drive (12 to 14 hours, depending on how many times my hubs slows down after I yell at him for driving too fast), but it would be nice to get away from here and I'd especially love to meet Moon Dancer and also another myLotter I've become friends with as well, moonlit magik child... geez, then there's Jen in TN! Hmmm, I'm going to have to get the date and place of this wedding and maybe work in some extracurricular activities besides the wedding!

Moonbeam lives half way between Nashville and Chattanooga so get out your maps and see if you can get in a visit to her while you're in TN. She'd love that! And I'd love knowing two of my sweetest friends from here were getting together. I'm glad some part of the memories my story brought back for you were good ones, and at least, even though it was hard for you to see your sons in stripes, that he got out of things ok. If everyone in TN is as lovely as moondancer and the people you met, then I think we should just move the whole lot down there eh? LOL

Well, nearby, anyway. I've always felt bad for those living just west of the Smoky Mountains because the really bad storms are stalled there by the mountains. We live just east of the tallest mountains so, even though we've had some whoppers regarding lightning, wind and rain (and an occasional tornado warning), they still get it much worse on the west side. Plus, it gets so darned hot there! I remember that, when I left Maryland for Tennessee in October, it was relatively cool but it was so hot in Tennessee that I had to go shopping for cooler clothing! LOL I suppose, if you're used to it, it's not bad. I'm here in Virginia now and the weather is pretty much the same as it was in Maryland, except that the storms are a bit more severe and I never went through a tornado warning before. (They totally freak me out!!!) But, moving close by is something to consider! Yes, the southern attitude is so very different than even the northern part of the U.S.! So easygoing and pleasant, for the most part. Maryland is considered a northern state by the southerners and a southern state by the northerners. Basically, it's a border state. Even though it's below the Mason-Dixon line, the attitude is more northern. We moved here to Virginia, which is located below Maryland, for the most part, but the part we moved to is actually more north than where we lived in Maryland. Confused yet? To put it more simply, I lived in gardening zone 7a in Maryland and we're in zone 6b here in Virginia... most definitely a southern state, yet more north than Maryland, at least here. Anyway, I think what I was trying to get at (if memory serves me correctly) was that Virginia has that "southern" atmosphere and attitude. We actually connect to Tennessee way down in the southwest part of the state. So, come on down!!!

We did have a great time - woulda been better if we caught a dozen or so... Next time we'll do better :) Maybe you can come down "on your way" to Tennessee!!! When you pick them up you have to get them from the back so they don't latch on to you. I've never had them get me, but it sure doesn't look like it's gonna tickle. This is knee surgery #5 for the hubby - only 2nd time on this knee. He's doing pretty well and may even go to Hershey Park with us next week! He's delaying the whole knee replacement for as long as he can.

I wish with a thought I could heal, the thing is that sometimes what I wish for is what I get but not as I expected to have it manifested. If you know what I mean? Even thinking the best thoughts things seem to work by alternate means so I would never want to be responsible as the trigger for something that belongs in another realm as I have to absolutely respect my responsibilities to what I am doing here and now. It sure is a nice thought, to write you're healed and with that thought people would be suddenly healed, fortunately I also have some understanding of our immune systems and the healing process which sometimes takes a little time depending upon each individual and their issues.

Her health issues are ongoing George, but she never complained once, and you really have to admire that kind of courage! As she said to me in an email, she refuses to let her health stop her from having the best quality of life she can, and I so admire her spirit and fortitude!

I really must say that I had a wonderful time with my exuberant and lively friend while in Edmonton. We did have a terrific time looking at the many artists painting and other things they made such as pottery and things that we weren't sure if it was art. lol I do remember saying that art is what the people themselves see it as in whatever it is they may be doing. We both bought something for each other. I must admit that I thought that I needed another picture to go with the one I purchased for sparks, but I could no find one that would go with the one I purchased. Not even at the one place I had bought that one, which was disappointing for me. I just hope that she has a small area to put this one or another picture that will go with the one I bought. Seeing sparks I knew right away that it was her. I would have known her anywhere. We hugged for a long time and let go then hugged again. In our excitement to see each other I do believe we became oblivious to the guys presents for a short time. I am glad that the guys had things to talk about, as they kind of work in the same industry in a round about way. The guys for the most part just followed us girls around where ever it was that we went. Even though they did this trip for us, I do believe that they enjoyed the trip and get together as well. It was hard on them as they were tired from coming in from work and then leaving on a long trip and driving the whole way. But they did not complain not once. We all had original Irish food at the pub. The food was fantastic. The pub was furnished in lots of wood carved chairs unlike any I have seen any other place. Any time any of you have a chance to meet up with our sparks you will find a finely dressed small lady with an exuberance and livliness that is enough to give you the energy you need to do all that is planned for the time together. She chose the right things to see and the perfect times to rest and to eat or to carry on in our seeing the sites. We purchased books at the book store that she was eager to show me. We do have the same taste in books and that was nice to discover. We talked about many different books and their authors. We also found that we have the same taste in art as we made our way around the few blocks of art that was displayed. I will be glad when we can get together again. I trully look forward to the next time we can get together.

I'm so glad you got to meet a mylot friend - seems like there's a lot of that going on round here! I was installing window units in the house, trying to get back on line, and moving stuff around. I threw out a whole tall kitchen garbage can full of stuff, and loaded a paper box full of magazines from just in my front room. (the trash went out into the can and the magazines into the kitchen) I managed to "excavate" my comfie chair! And I have an ac in here to keep the room cool! I also watched 3 episodes of the new Torchwood. And only got about 3/4 hours of sleep last night.

My little babies have been running me ragged and I finally now get to leave my own comment to this discussion! LOL What a wonderful story, I am so glad that you all got together and had a great time. My weekend was uneventful, which is generally a good thing for me. I wonder how long a drive it is to get to you form New York? LOL Let me know if you ever find yourself in the Northeastern portion of the US. Or even the Southeastern part of Canada, preferably by the NY border. LOL I live near Riptide, although she was closer before she moved she's still relatively nearby. I consider her one of my best friends even though we haven't yet had a chance to get together in person, we sometimes talk on the phone. It is a real treat to hear her voice, it is not the stereotypical gruff German accent one might expect, it is soft and sweet and very pretty. Sncain is on the other side of the US from me, but we do talk on the phone, and our conversations are awesome. One day maybe when the kids are bigger, I'd love to go west and see her in person. We see the world in a very similar manner, I think our souls may have been separated at birth. There are a few mylot friends in my life who have crossed over outside of mylot to other forums and on the phone to become real friends to me, geographical distance is the only thing that separates us. I really enjoyed reading your story and Moondancer's response to it as well. What a beautiful experience, and you two write so well that I feel as if I were there with you! Thank you so much for sharing with us, mylot IS a magical place and I love it when some of that magic reaches out of the computer and into our lives, I love it when people like you share such uplifting stories about it too. The friendships that start here are truly wonderful. Maybe one day we all go to England to see Gabs, and India for my lovely friend Sudpita!

After being called russian a couple of times, I worked hard to lose that accent real quick lol. I eventualy graduated from french canadian, to british english and finaly people who didn't know me thought I was a real NYer. The only time my accent comes out when I get pi$$ed LOL.

If you poke me, I'll giggle, I'm very ticklish lol. I'll just make sure I'll have a bad day at work, then you can hear me ranting accent and all LMAO! Kitty and me only live about 25-30 miles away from each other. So I'll be damned if we don't meet up soon lol.

Well Kitty, I'm sure the day will come when you and Rip meet up.......even if I have to come down there and arrange it myself! LOL We see so many discussions about meeting up, or wanting to meet up, or having met up, and I can tell you now from experience, to be able to actually do it, is a gift not to be missed! It's amazing how nothing about the person matters except that you are standing in front of them and KNOWING that the friendship you formed is as real and as deep as you 'imagined' it to be. And Rip.........if I poke you, can I hear your accent? LOL I LOVE German accents!

That's so wonderful. So you had a very special weekend with a very special mylot friend there, awesome.. I spent my weekend working and I'm looking forward to my off day so much. I wonder how a Tennessee accent sounds like. Would have to go to the tube to find out, LOL...I think I have an idea but kind of vague right now. You are right, friendship formed from this site and others are just pure magic. One for friendship..

Zed, I'd try to describe the Tennessee accent for you, but I wouldn't do it justice. Let's just say it's poetry in motion! Truly. Moondance could have read the phone book to me and I'd still have been entranced! lol So yes,..............here's one for friendship!

I don't even have to meet you to tell you talk with alot of enthusiasm, and maybe even a bti fast! WOAH! Lol, I swear I read this pretty fast just by the tone of your words! Lol! I am so glad you had a very good time meeting this mylotter and her husband. My fiance is not good with crowds but neither am I... so I think I would be getting a bit irritated lol wwith lots of people around. My weekend, was okay, but let's just say my discussion on "disownment" isn't far from the truth.

I used to talk a mile a minute, and still sometimes do. I was always hyper hyper hyper, and remember being told to slow down because some of my elder relatives couldn't understand me. lol. Bouncing off the walls hyper. Not sure why you didn't get the alert.

Hello Martha...........I heard from her this morning thank heavens. Like me, she is exhausted from the trip, but happy to have made it too, so that's all good. I just hope she gets the rest she needs and doesn't worry about the computer or anything else too much. Thanks so much for getting back to me!

Hey Sparks! What an incredible story! And I had no idea when I asked "moondancer" for a friends request in your discussion that she was the one that you were going to meet! I just liked her right away and couldn't figure out why she wasn't already on my friends list! It sounds like you all had the best time ever! It sounds like the perfect weekend and I so wish I could have been there, although I would have been a 5th wheel, hence no hubby and boyfriend wouldn't have fit it for sure! I think looking at art and books and talking and eating is the best when you're with people that you like! I am so happy that you found a new and wonderful friendship and your hubby too! That really makes it even better so now you can go to Tennessee to visit your "moonbeam" and her hubby and see what it's like where they live! It was a lovely description about your wonderful weekend and I really am so happy for all of you! Thanks so much for sharing all the loving moments! You really deserve it! Hugs to all of you, Opal

Well Opal, I could be meeting up with you before you know it! The hubs and I are planning a trip to New York, (I want to visit with OceanTiara) and no way would I go all that way without visiting Yonkers too!

Opal, if we're going to go all that way to New York, a side trip to Yonkers won't be a problem! LOL I'll have to pick up Kitty on the way and bring her along though, I'm sure! lol

That would be incredible! But, it's nowhere near OT! You might be disappointed when you got to Yonkers! There's not much here to see except a Casino which I haven't even checked out yet!lol But, you and hubs are more than welcome! I would be thrilled!
