Running round for mind numbing paperwork - is it for paperwork's sake?

I ask this question as sometimes paperwork, which is a part of life and needs to be produced for important things just gets out of hand. Here is an example of the paperwork required for a primary school child to obtain the necessary card to allow him to play football with our local team and believe me it's easier to do the paperwork for buying a house. 1) Letter from headmaster stating the child attends said school. Must be stamped. 2) Letter from paediatrician confirming child is healthy enough to play sport. Must be stamped. 2 hour round trip drive to paediactrician. 3) Document from hospital Doctor stating the chld does not have TB. Must be stamped. 4 hour round trip involved as have to drive back for results of said test. 4) Document from local council stating that they have agreed with your proofs, which you have first to provide, that child has not previously played for another team. Must be stamped. 5)original child passport required to be left with said council to lose at their own whim until intervention of friendly deputy mayor. Finally returned after said intervention. 6) Document from the school to state that they are already in possession of paediatiric report that states child is fit to play sport at school. Must be stamped.

Now that is a lot of paperwork especially for something which just a decade ago probably wouldn’t have needed any paperwork at all. It’s obvious that they take everything very seriously when it comes to children playing football, maybe a little too seriously. I wonder how bad it is here for allowing children to play football for a local team as the UK is now turning into the red tape, cotton world trend setter. But there is a cunning reason for all this seemingly unnecessary paper work. It gives people a job to do when there isn’t really one in the first place and also gives them an ego boost that they can make people run around at their whim. In fact you should be grateful that you had to do so much running around getting paperwork just to give someone a job as otherwise what else would you have been doing .... just kidding
