Yes it's all in the bait. Hit the water about 9pm to catch the bait to use later the same night. Different bait at different times of the year of course. Start with squid as bait, you need to catch a squid, take it home, cut it up and put in on your hooked lines for surface fishing. No squids to be had, better resort to the frozen stuff you put away the other night when you got an extra one. 1am, back to the sea to lay the squid laden lines. 6am back to the sea to retrieve the fish laden lines. Hope a seal hasn't eaten your fish. New moon, can't fish, fish don't like the light. Time for prawns as bait now, order them by phone and the bus will drop them off at the local taverna. Any of this sound familiar? That's what's happening in those idyllic Greek fishing villages.
