My 10 1/2 year old cat has gotten quite thin - should I be alarmed? |
|
I have a 10 1/2 year old black cat, just your average, garden-variety house cat. In the past month or so, she has become noticeably thinner. She still eats just fine, in fact is hungry all the time. I have not changed or altered her diet in any way. Should I be alarmed, perhaps take her the the vet?

1. tlb0822 (896) | 5 months ago | My sisters cat was 8 years old. She was a very healthy and active cat. Soon the cat, rosie, started losing weight. My family didn't really think much of it because she was eating normally. But after a few months rosie was extremely thin and slowed her eating, and her interest in playing. So my parents took her to the vet. Rosie had a form of cat diabetes. By the time they had taken her it was too late to do anything. All they could do was try to force feed her, and give her pain meds. All in all rosie end up passing away. Sorry if that got a little off track but yes...I would most certainlty take your cat to the vet. I can't guarantee that that is what it is of course, but it would be better if you found out sooner, because it is treatable. good luck, and I hope that your cat is fine.

Does your Cat still urinate the same? Does she still clean her self, do you notice any fur change of some sort? If she's thirsty all the time?
Like I said, I think you should got to your Veterinarian, just to be sure.

| kelbel39 (41) | 5 months ago | Hello, she does still urinate the same, as best as I can tell, and she does still clean herself like normal. I have noticed that she has shed a good bit of hair, but I believe that she usually does this time of year...
I haven't noticed any increased thirstiness- nevertheless, I am making an appointment for her as soon as possible. Thank you!

3. mcat19 (1018) | 5 months ago | When my cat Patches lost weight, she was diagnosed with a thyroid problem. She was given one tablet of tapezol a day for the rest of her life. She lived until she was 20 years old. I mashed her pill into a teaspoon of watered down canned food, and she gobbled it right up.
I hope your cat has something easily treated and is back to herself in no time. Good luck.
