harry potter and the half blood prince

hey all you mylotters! I recently watch the movie harry potter and the half blood prince and having not read the book, I am curious as to why professor snape is referred to as the half blood prince. Is he royalty? why is he half blooded? and is snape actually evil (cause he killed dumbledore) ? sorry the movie doesn't really explain. please help me

Could be wrong as it is a few years since I read the book but think one of his parents was a wizard and one was a muggle, meanign he was half blood, and his mother's??? surname was Prince

lol that was it? I thought he was like royalty or something so was really confuse. Thank you. but why did he kill dumbledore? i thought he was good... now his evil?
