How do you cope with dog's malting hair when they're inside? |
|
Probably not the best wording, but what I want to know is, if you have dogs hair in your carpet, and on your clothes, what is the best and easiest way to clean those items. I will appreciate any suggestions.

mipen2006 (2414) | 5 months ago | Hi iskayz, thanks for the tips. I have had dogs, but they were always trained to stay outside. Now, I'm housesitting, and the people's dogs come inside, so suddenly i'm confronted with this problem. I do vaccume weekly, and it was the clothes that bothered me the most. I'll try the masking tape. Thanks for responding.

2. tigeraunt (850) | 5 months ago | i guess older dogs shed more hair because when i sweep every morning i always get handful of hairs. i have an 8 years old dog which has been with me for its good i dont have a carpet. frequent sweeping and cleaning the furnitures will get rid of it. in clothes, i am not sure how to handle. i brush my clothes with my hand. some remain but others are loosened. then i just pick on those that i see while am wearing the shirt, etc. i look funny sometimes. ann

mipen2006 (2414) | 5 months ago | Thanks tigeraunt, the clothes are the real problem, as I vaccuum and sweep regularly to control that aspect, but getting the light colored hairs from the Golden Retriever out of my dark clothes is what is bothering me. Thank you for your response.

3. bricked (114) | 5 months ago | I have 3 dogs at home and all of them shed. To keep up with the shedding, I do brush them a lot and at home, I make sure to vacumm everyday, that way i won't bees to fury every where. As for the clothes, you either used a dryer or a sticky roller to get all the pet hair out.

mipen2006 (2414) | 5 months ago | Thank you bricked, it's the clothes that are the real problem. You have endoursed another myLotter's suggestion about the roll of sticky, so that could be worth trying. Thank you for taking time to help me.

| 4. skermit23 (96) | 5 months ago | Some breeds of dogs, especially short hair breeds have hair that stick into your carpet like fine little needles and are not easily removed by vacuuming. Rubber brooms can be used on these stubborn hairs. The rubber bristles work with static electricity and the dog hairs just seem to jump on to the brush.Another method is sweeping with a stiff bristle brush before vacuuming. If time and energy are not a problem to you,you can go over your carpet with a rubber glove or damp sponge to remove the hairs. Try mixing some fabric softener with water and mist it on to your carpet with a spray bottle. Don't saturate the carpet, just a fine mist is all you need. Allow to dry. After the carpet is dry,go over with your vacuum cleaner. To get pet hair off of clothes you can use pet hair rollers. They are a small hand held roller which come supplied with disposable perforated sheets of sticky paper. The idea is to roll the pet roller over the area of pet hair and the hair sticks to the sticky paper. A similar method of removing dog hair is to wrap packing or duct tape around your hand, sticky side facing out and pat this over the clothes. This is also a great method to use to get pet hair off of furniture.
Take a few minutes a day to brush your pet. Not only will you be removing loose hair but you will also be bonding with your pet. Use fabric softener when you do laundry to help loosen pet hair. If your dryer has a lint trap, it should catch the loose pet hair.Vacuum regularly and keep lint brushes and rollers handy:]

mipen2006 (2414) | 5 months ago | Hey skermit, thank you for a very detailed reply. We are actually housesitting here, while the owners are in England. The house has a avery good and powerful ducted vacuum cleaning system, so the sofas and carpet are my not major concerns. One dog, a beautiful Golden Retriever seems to deposit a large portion of her hair on my dark colored clothing, and so far I haven't found a way of removing it. Other's have suggested the duct tape method, so I am going to give that a try. I haven't heard of the pet roller, but I'll look in the local pet shop today. Thank you for your suggestions.

5. polachicago (7865) | 5 months ago | Dogs need to be bushed at least once a week. I brush my dogs every other day for an about 5 minutes or so. The best way to clean is to vacuum or have special rubber brush. see link:

| 6. MoodysMom (2) | 3 months ago | I suffer from this terribly with a 105-lb. dog that has Addison's disease and is on steroids every day and sheds like crazy.
Since your problem is not due to you actually having a pet maybe there is a very simple solution. Wear a pair of shorts and a shirt that you don't mind getting puppy on. At least you will only have one outfit to worry about. Then put a towel over your seat in your car and sit on that on the way home before you get changed. It keeps the hair off of your car seat. Put the clothes in a plastic bag as soon as you get home until you wash them to keep from spreading the hair to your other clothing in the laundry area, etc.
As for the carpet, my husband gets on his hands and knees practically every other day. He starts in one corner and works himself out of the room running his hand over the carpet while pressing down and scooping. He seems to get a small puppy worth of hair each time he does it. Then we vacuum. It gets the hair off the top of the carpet and then the vacuum mainly works on what is deeper.
I hope this helps! I try to find new ways to de-pupitize my house every day. I am afraid it is a battle I may never win, but I wouldn't trade him for the world.
