With all of the hype surrounding the new Harry Potter movie, I thought it would be interesting to know if people thought Lord of the Rings was better than Harry Potter?

1. pupupd (421) | 5 months ago | I think both are equal, some people may feel that LOTR is a lot better than Harry Potter, but according to me both are of equal excellence. I have seen all the three movies of LOTR and I just love the action and the war environment in that movie. In harry potter, it surrounds more around adolescent feelings and how a teenager can handle difficult situations with help of his dedicated friends.

2. happyness3 (296) | 5 months ago | Lord of the Rings. I have to be honest, I have never been a huge Harry Potter fan. I mean, they are OK, but I find the movies wandering a bit in the story line. And tried to read one of the books once, but just couldn't get into it. I read the Lord of the Rings books when I was in high school, and when I was sitting in a theatre, and the screen went black, and all I heard was 'My Preciousssss'! I was soooooo excited. They were adapted amazingly well for all the detail that was in the books, and kept to the story line. I loved them, and can't wait until they make the Hobbit movie!!

| 3. sjward2009 (10) | 5 months ago | No question---Lord of the Rings wins, hands down. The Rings was better written, was more complex, and had awesome special effects. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the Harry Potter movies, but they just cannot compare to an epic movie such as LOR. I could, and have, watched the LOR trilogy over and over. I think it draws one into the story line on a more complex level than HP.

| 4. bargainbaby (23) | 5 months ago | I would have to say that they stand on equal grounds. I haven't seen the newest Harry Potter but I have loved all of the rest. Same with the Lord of the Rings series. The movies left a lot out of the books though. I have to say that I would suggest reading both series!

6. skyhss (424) | 5 months ago | i prefer LOTR over Harry Potter. i think Harry Potter was aimed at younger people where LOTR's is more of an all ages series of movies. and i loved The Hobbit when i was a kid. i still have a very old copy of that book and take it out once in a while to read:)

7. pickoy (598) | 5 months ago | they have different genre... i love them both but when it comes to script i love LOTR better, its very creative. Every episode it hand-picked. I've seen the extend version that runs for more than 4 hours a chapter, its really cool, most of the unseen effects not shown in cinemas are really awesome... I believe they've it that way to cut costs...

8. Pleiades (612) | 5 months ago | Had you asked me to compare LOTR to Twilight...I'd say LOTR hands down. But geesh you make this one difficult!*lol*
I LOVE LOTR because it's a classic...the first in the kind of magic and mystery like that for me. Plus, the books are very popular. In fact, I'm reading "The Followship of the Ring" right now. I love how they filmed all three movies one right after another so you're not stunned with the aging of the actors.
Harry Potter. I heard many mixed things about it and had a husband who refused to let me watch it because of the witchcraft in it and stuff. Now that I'm no longer with him, I've indulged myself in all the HP movies to last a life time. I could still watch those movies over and over again. I know they have been filming these for the last ten years and that makes it so much...more special. You can watch the kids grow up and deal with their problems and friendships as they get older.
Wow...all in all, I really can't answer, but if I had to pick: LOTR.

9. psychogurl (176) | 5 months ago | I prefer the Harry Potter books and the LOTR movies. I found the LOTR books to be a bit boring and the Harry Potter movies just don't live up to my expectations.

10. mama_bear (602) | 5 months ago | i am a huuuuuge lord of the rings fan. yes it may be a harder read than harry potter but it set the standard for that kind of story telling that involve magic and magical creatures. also it was written in a different time, tolkien was way ahead of his time, and his books have stood the test of time, they may as well have been written yesterday. his universe is more diverse in my opinion than jk rowling, then again i am a sci-fi and fantasy snob.
