Walked with God - Enoch |
|
In the earlier topic on the Flood which I posted, I apologize for the error in the spelling of "Chapter" which was spelled "chater" Sorry about that. Anyway, in the Bible where the genealogy of Adam down to Noah was stated, did you notice that for everyone of Adam's descendants, except for Enoch, it was mentioned that they died after living for so many hundreds of years. But in the case of Enoch, it is stated that he walked for some many years with God and then he was gone or was no more but it did not say that he died like the others before and after him. While i have some ideas about what it means, maybe anyone out there would want to share his/her understanding of this portion of this passage in the Bible?

acevivx (705) | 6 months ago | Thanks for responding but your answer adds to the confusion. I don't think Enoch was a God in whatever sense since he is identified as a man and there is only one God (to Christians) so while may have walked with God, it does not imply that he is a god too. But what i really want to find out is, did he die or was he just taken up to heaven like Elijah

2. macdingolinger (1241) | 6 months ago | My understanding is that Enoch just went on to be with God. One versions says "Enoch was not for God took him." my assumption then is htat God just liked walking with Enoch and took him on to be with Him.....

You have no doubt noticed that people then lived 800 to 900 years or so, but Enoch only lived half that. God apparently cut his life short early to prevent any more distress to befall him. He probably died peacefully in his sleep to prevent his being horribly murdered. God also disposed of his physical remains so no one could desecrate his body.
Another example of God burying a dead person so others didn't know where was Moses. God no doubt did this because the Israelites might have been tempted to preserve his body and use it as object of worship. They had a reputation for making inanimate things their gods instead of walking in faith as they were told to.

acevivx (705) | 5 months ago | That's very enlightening Savak03. So it is not that God just took him up to heaven without his having died at all? All the rest, it was mentioned that they died. Is it similar to the prophet Elijah who was taken up by chariots of fire?

4. flowerchilde (6827) | 5 months ago | Some believe it is an example of what will occur when Jesus returns "with fire and angels" as the fire 'comes down' (or rather is unleashed by man) the last trumpet is sounded and the dead in Christ rise first and those believers who still alive, will be caught up to meet Christ "in the air" at his arrival..

acevivx (705) | 5 months ago | Thanks for the response flowerchilde. Is that what they call the "rapture" where people don't actually die but are caught up to heaven on the return of Christ?

6. debrakcarey (1353) | 2 months ago | Did you know that there is a apocraphyl book titled The Book of Enoch? It describes Enoch's walk with God and what happened after he was taken into heaven before the throne of God.
I believe that the two witnesses in Revelation that preach in the streets of Jerusalem to the Israelites...one will be Enoch who represents those who lived before the flood, and one will be Elijah who represents those who lived after the flood. Neither one has 'died' as all men are appointed to die....and will be killed for their testimony.
The Book of Enoch describes what happened before the flood when the fallen angels took human women to wife and had sons by them. Genisis chapter six also describes this taking place. I believe that the stories we have from the Greeks and Romans like "Hercules" are a way the ancients tried to describe this occuring. The world became very evil. Noah's family was the only family left who had not succumbed to this evil. Their DNA was pure...and they were saved. Jesus said, as in the days of Noah so shall the coming of the son of man be. What this means is the world will be very evil...and some even believe that the fallen angels will once again deceive mankind right before Christ returns based on this saying of Jesus, they come trying to trick mankind into worshipping them by performing many miracles.
It also is in the Old Testament, not sure of chapter and verse...that the fallen angels taught civilization to mankind...city building (Nimrod) and gave them false religions (mystery Babylon) and taught them to use metals and make music.
Google the Book of Enoch, I found it on the web and read it. It helped me alot to understand confusing passages such as Genesis six.

levite (482) | 1 month ago | Hi debrakcarey. I also have my copy of the book of Enoch and it gives me some enlightening informations about the days in which Enoch lived and the situation of the people during his time, it is much similar to ours especially about the altering of human genes and human cloning, we're nearly the end of time.
