When your spouse fights with their family

When your spouse gets into a fight with a family member from his side do you try to make things better or step aside and let them dish it out? We are having an issue with my hubby's family and some of the other members morals. We let them live their own lives without butting in but my husband has come to a point where he does not want our children to be around said family members as he believes it is giving a bad example and that by being with them we are approving of the immoral way of life. To define immoral we are talking alcohol abuse, extra marital affairs resulting in children from many diffrent "relationships" as well as conning people and the list goes on. I do not want my kids to miss out on family events with his family over this but on the other hand I too am uncomfortable explaining why to many of the questions asked. Do you push to make things better or just stand to the side?
